HTC Desire, Legend and HD Mini show up on Amazon UK, expected to arrive on April 1
Slowly but surely, HTC's latest trifecta of handsets is making its way westwards. After appearing on Amazon's Deutsche hub with a pre-order value of €519 ($707), the Desire has now reached the UK with an even steeper £528 ($795) price and an estimated arrival time of April 1. Let's just hope this pattern doesn't continue or we'll be looking at a four-figure sticker when this thing comes all the way Stateside. The HTC Legend is also slated for an April 1 delivery and carries a price of £400 ($602), while the HD Mini will straggle a tiny bit with an April 14 launch and a palatable £369 ($556) price. All are without contractual obligations, so it'll be interesting to see what incentives carriers can come up with to get us to jump on board.

£528 !!!!! Have they lost their mind!!
@sakz
Well, that's what you get for cramming a Netbook's power into a handsized device.
@sakz April fools by any chance .... i wish!
@sakz
for unlocked prices I'd go $350 for the legend and $450 for the desire but maybe that's asking too much of them
@JeremyBenthem
i was thinking of the same price range ..... this is just overpriced ! oh well its time to get an Hero ! thats right the hero ..... with almost the same specs as the legend and android 2.1 promised .. why buy a legend ? (my opinion)
@AnAnt
I have a hero and cant wait for the 2.1
but i must admit I love the look of a legend.. perfect phone for me would be legend with desire/nexus one specs...
but this would leave me poor!
@sakz that was up there long time ago and you get get it for £400 from fun mobile and there's a big price difference
@sakz It appears all the things that we dreamt about the Nexus Phone has been infused with the HTC desire, hopefully this one can live up to the expectation of the users.
However, we could use a bit of price deduction than this one.. I must say, its a hike!
@kjb434 But the innards are the same as a Nexus One, which cost me ~£350 to buy from Google...
@sakz
Hey, delivery is free
@sakz
lol, good ole Expansys.
£414 http://www.devicewire.co.uk/htc-desire
very costly but i'll still buy a Legend.. :D
How is android free again? ...
@L3 Chiffr3 Android is free. The hardware is not. But you knew that.
Yeah that seems a bit steep... it's gonna be equivalent to around £460-465 where I live.
Provided it doesn't have the same crappy screen as the Nexus, it might just replace my Milestone.
@Golgo
I would hardly say it's crap, besides where's your love for an android brother ;)
@fpad77 Well yeah, maybe calling the screen crap is a bit unfair. I guess it's really the touch sensor that deserve the crap-designation.
Expansys have been putting the Desire at about £450 for several weeks now. They're not known for low launch prices, so I have to expect theirs is the accurate sticker.
Best April Fools Day joke ever.....
Just get the Nexus One guys =]
@bazookafx3 Especially since you can easily load the desire ROM on it, effectively making it a desire.
That's € 584! The preorder price on amazon.de was € 419 incl tax and shipping. I'm sure happy I got the deal.
Today's price is € 485 on amazon.de
Maybe it'll drop before launch in the UK.
That is steep indeed, don't think they'll sell many at that price. I was interested, but not at that price point - it's just not worth that kind of money. Especially not with the problems they are having with the multitouch and on the low-.quality touchscreen controller the Desire and Nexus one is having.
Thanks, but no thanks.
My desire for the Desire is not that big.
It's probably an Apple advertisement... The freaking 3GS is sold on UK orange with proce range from 30£ to 125£ depending on the contract you take.
With such prohibitive prices, they will only get more people to choose the Iphone instead.
Damn can't they just swallow margins for a while as they are actually "making a market"...
@aeonys
Well this I think you'll find is handset only. It's not until it arrives at the likes of vodafone or whatnot around the same time that you will see the subsidised version. Try buying a handset only iPhone in the UK and it'll cost you about the same if not more..
you can get it for £440 from play.com: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/13665745/HTC-Desire-Android-Sim-Free-Unlocked-Mobile-Phone/Product.html
@hajj3
+1 to the OP. Not to mention on contract.
@hajj3
Exactly, and I'm pretty sure that until recently it was about that price on Amazon and else where. What has happened?
Why is it Europe always get the good stuff first how bout us in the U.S.?
@Inspector Gadget80 You are joking, right?
You got the iPhone first, the Palm Pre first, the Nexus One first and the HD2 first. There may be a lot of problems with the state of mobile phones, tariffs and networks in the USA - but not getting phones first isn't one of them.
@Inspector Gadget80
Frankly, that's not true... I had to be in the USA to get my N1 otherwise I would still be frustrated and have my wife playing around with he 3gs while I had my nokia phone to call and write sms.
You get MOST of the best stuff first and besides, this is frankly unfair since we're a 440 million inhabitants market with better wifi and higher density of population.
@aeonys
Frankly that's not true either. N1 was available for shipping to the UK immediately at launch, the only premium being import.
Expansys are offering Desire for £439.99 and Legend for £389.99.
http://www.expansys.com/s.aspx?search=HTC&instock=0&update=true
Mind you both are marked "due Friday 9th April" which means the price could easily change between now and then.
In Denmark where I live (where all products are generally expensive because of our 25% VAT), one of the largest carriers will sell it from their webshop without a contract for $620. I think it's a great price, I purchased the Touch HD from the same shop for $820 (and yes, I am eager to ditch Win Mobile!).
I preordered the Desire for 419€ :> Lucky me.
The Desire is only £380 at devicewire.com!!
I pre-ordered my Desire for €469 so that prize is fixed for me :p
I wouldnt take these prices seriously, its cheaper on many other websites such as play and devicewire - The nexus one is £629 on amazon.uk for goodness sake!
Just get a Nexus One and install d desire ROM from xda-devs... or else it's just almost $200 for optical scrolling and sense 2.1....
Yikes, looks like I'm getting and rooting a N1!
Carphone warehouse have the prices up already on t-mobile contract!
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/choose-tariff/HTC-DESIRE/MONTHLY
This will deffo be my next phone, as an replacement for my old and trusty G1
@maxitup For got to say £49 is the cheapest on a 24 month contract!
UK Amazon is not known for good smartphone prices.
Devicewire are selling it for $414.95, Handtec £418.76, Expansys and Play for £.439.99
So this a few days ago...only they were for £430 and £460 or something like that. So the Legend has gone down in price but the Desire has gone up since.
You can get it for free on 18 month £30 a month contracts with t-mo
What I hate from HTC = Their Price!!!
Guys, I am torn by all 3 phones, at the moment the Legend is in the lead (although I now have another contender in the guise of the SE X10 mini). However, no need to flap about the price, give it a month and they'll all be free with a packet of crisps... this has proven to be the case for every single phone I've ever wanted.
Just go into the Crapfone Whorehouse and say "I want to buy this HTC Legend kind sir". The nice salesman will say "that will be £400 guv", to which you must reply "...shame it's not free with a packet of crisps"... and commence to walk out of the shop....
Salesman: "what flavour you want those crisps?"
SOLD!
Meh, still want the Supersonic more and that probably will be US only for some time too >_>
So right now I'm looking at buying sim-free for:
£439.99 + £6.76 shipping from Expansys (reliable)
http://www.expansys.com/d.aspx?i=196001
£389.95 + £6.94 shipping from Devicewire (who?)
http://www.devicewire.co.uk/htc-desire
I threw away the even-lower price at prepaymania due to all the horrible reviews coming from that place. Can any one vouch for Devicewire? Or find a comparable price from another reliable source?
