Dell Adamo XPS alive and kicking, back for order on Dell.com
Well hello again, Dell Adamo XPS. Though the incredibly thin and uniquely designed laptop disappeared from Dell.com last week and we received official comment that it was a "limited edition product with a finite number of systems available," the Adamo XPS has reappeared in its $2,000 glory on the company's site. According to Dell's blog, it was merely just a move to restock the inventory and direct customers to retailers that had fresh stock -- well why didn't you just say that Dell! And do not fear about the Adamo brand, Dell reports that all is well as it starts to apply the design to other lines, just as we saw yesterday with the Vostro V13. We're still a bit confused by the reappearance, but it sure is good to see you again, Adamo XPS. We wish you a long successful life with many many price drops.

Sweet, we can continue not ordering it now.
@Nitesh Who exactly is this thing for, anyway?
@The Madman : I'm guessing not for you nor Nitesh. Still millions and millions of other consumers out there though.
@t1t0 I don't know if they sold "millions and millions" of these, but sure, it fills a niche. Although, a niche I don't fully understand the need for.
'Woop dat ass'
@Edmunn
I was kind of pleased to flip through the comment page last time and find someone that actually owns one of these things. if I had a much closer to infinite pile of cash than I do now, I'd like to give it a shot.
hey michael dell, I know you read this . . . you have a pile of cash and probably a few extra adamo xps computers kicking around. give them to engadget readers and we'll be sure to tote them about and get that design some semi-mainstream exposure.
@t1t0 Millions and millions...not buying this.
I highly doubt the design reliability.... that thing looks like its made to break.

my wife just purchased this computer. Pictures do not do it justice. It is very well built - feels solid in the hand. It is amazingly thin and light making transport as easy as it gets. Computing power is the trade-off, but I bet there are many others like my wife where portability is more important.
The design is also quite useful - when used on the lap the heat from the case isn't directly against your legs (cooling is also still works at 100% efficiency when used on a soft surface). Also, for me at least, the keyboard angle is quite nice when used on my lap (it isn't sloping away from you).
My only complaint is that the F and J keys lack the "nubs" to locate your hands on the keyboard.
I would suggest trying it out at best buy or the like before dismissing it.
@f2000372
I thought the same about the MBA, and I was right the screen snapped off.
@DougieBear
How exactly were you handling that thing?
@geeeman89
Not roughly at all I just opened it. Must of had a weakened hinge or something.
I was looking for a paper weight that could open up. I knew I can always count on Dell! That's why I am a loyal customer :)

great, more clutter on the dell site that no one wants to buy
Twice the usb ports of macbook air, half the thickness. Both pretty useless and pricey
Are these going to have mediocre battery life like other Adamos?
:/
What's great about this laptop is we can all regurgitate our gripes from the iPad:
How do you hold this thing on your lap?
The keyboard looks uncomfortable to use!
The battery life on that thing must be nil!
It's too expensive for what it is!
I can't afford it, hate hate hate hate
@Ryan Trevisol But it can play flash :-P
Look, its an upside down laptop!
That thing is ugly.
nice ,dell is the best when it comes to VFM

cool, price dropped by $1
@JeremyBenthem Am I wrong or was it like $1799 initially??
It's about time someone else to noticed the price discrepancy!
This machine was widely reported and advertised as $1799 EVERYWHERE when it was first released, but as far as I can tell Dell jacked the price up to $1999 almost immediately after that initial publicity/hype. The price increase was not reported on Engadget or anywhere else, in fact they still referred to a mythical $1799 price point in their articles up until this one. No dig at Engadget here, because every media outlet did the same.
Anyways I had hoped that perhaps Dell took the opportunity to put a half decent screen in this thing, instead of the mediocre panel it was originally spec'ed with. But probably not.
Can any Adamo XPS owners who paid $1999 shine some light on this? Are your viewing angles and color reproduction as abysmal as the initial reviews stated?
Laura, perhaps you could get the answer straight from the horse's mouth, and ask Dell exactly why the price increased from the initially advertised $1799 to nearly $2000 last year? Did they actually increase some spec, or was it just another sneaky Dell pricing game?
Err, Joanna even. My apologies.
@good grief
I have owned this computer for 3 months and all I can say that it is awesome! Forget about pictures and comments (Have you guys every even saw this computer in person?) It is a solid piece of engineering that is ahead of it's time and why most people visually think its odd/ugly.
The design works, keyboard is great (metal keys make this the best feeling keyboard I've ever used). Screen is nice and bright (some extreme viewing angles are washed) It's kind of like the Bugatti Veyron with its high price and a love it or hate it design but when you see one in person you forget about your opinion and just stare. It is sooooo incredibly thin. It's far from ugly but more like having gull wing doors in a crowd of standard cars. And yes, people will ENVY you! I have the Adamo XPS (got from Amazon) and Pearl Adamo (from Dell direct $999 now) - perks of being Network Manager :-D
Not to be a snob, but I actually don't get who on earth would buy this thing. It's a laptop. Look at it. How can you possibly put that on your lap?
@leibie101 It is actually quite easy and you won't feel uncomfortable. I have tried it once and I don't have any problem. The better part of this is your lap doesn't directly feel the heat like when you use normal laptop. If it is not so expensive, I may buy one.
I'd love to see a video of someone placing this on a desk and opening it. Must be an awkward task.
@zipp
its not! very impractical, but it looks pretty cool actually.
Alive, kicking and as ugly as hell!
Im going to run off and cancel my w510 order
.... wait.....
I spent less on the w510
and its a real computer
IM good = )
@CannedCorn
I seriously considered it as a secondary laptop at $1799 (my primary is an 8lb monster). But you're right, $2000 is too much for this machine.
And how the question remains....why would anyone want one?
That thing is absolutely ugly
The angle of the keyboard causes hyperextension of the wrist - so if you don't have wrist problems, you probably will if you use this thing a lot.
http://bit.ly/no-more-bits?
As a tech exsersise - it's nice. Thin - yes. But it looks awkward and i doubt that it will gain any popularity with a price tag this high. Make it $800 bucks or so, i'd buy it just as an expensive picture frame.
