New Xbox 360 4GB ships August 3rd for $199, Kinect standalone priced at $149, bundle coming this holiday for $299
Amazon Germany just couldn't keep a secret. Microsoft's just announced that a shiny new Xbox 360 Arcade replacement -- with 4GB internal flash memory, a matte finish, and built-in 802.11n WiFi -- will be shipping August 3rd for $199.99. A stark difference in capacity to the current 250GB model, but at least it's cheaper. Looking ahead to November, the standalone Kinect, it's coming for (yeah, you guessed it) $149.99 with Kinect Adventures. Act surprised, Microsoft would really like you to. As for the pièce de résistance -- that'd be the 4GB console, Kinect sensor, and game -- that's due out "this holiday" for $299.99. Press release after the break, pretty pictures just below.

I still want a slim....maybe gonna trade my MW2 Edition for one.....not sure about Kinect yet....
@element4life3 Do it. It's so worth it. The quiet performance, the nice looks, the great storage capacity, I love everything about it.
I can't believe they're only offering 4gbs. Can't even do something in the 20s? 4GBs is barely enough for one install and a demo or two.
@element4life3 It's not slim is the "new xbox" geez...
@element4life3
Not worth it.
@element4life3
4Gb? Seriously? Not even 20?
Will it max out usb storage like it is now?
@JONNNathannn
So how much could I put towards the "New Xbox" (thanks Fox Con, lol) if I were to trade in my 250GB MW2 Edition Xbox, and 2 controllers? What would the difference run me?
@element4life3
and I'm not talkin about the 4Gb one but the 250Gb
@element4life3
Add my voice to those that say the New 360 Slim is AMAZING! That is the 250GB version....
@Dig Deep
It's cool how everyone always responds to the first comment only.
But in other news, this is a great move for Microsoft. They've got the most affordable console on the market. This will be great for people have been holding out the past few years.
@element4life3
4GB, what year is this? A 160GB laptop drive is $34, a 500GB is $60. This isn't even bulk pricing. Why not just go back to $40 memory cards if you're going to pretend storage is expensive?
@element4life3
I like how it's a "shiny new xbox" with a "matte finish". Hmmmm.....
@element4life3 like the engadget review said, you can pop open your current HDD and just insert it into the new XBOX's HDD slot... I did it to transfer content from my RROD xbox hdd...
if you don't move your console, you can just buy the arcade and go that route until 3rd party cases for HDD arrive....
pal :)
@element4life3
Wait, matte finish? Even though they gimped the storage, it may be worth it for some who didn't want the shiny so much. The only problem is we know we'll get raped on the stand alone hard drive, lol.
@JohnnyRocketpants
It's not a HDD, it's flash storage. That's why. Faster storage for less space.
@element4life3 You missed out on a deal that Gamestop were running during the first week on sale.
I traded in an Arcade, 120GB HD, transfer cable, original Wi-Fi adaptor and 256MB memory card and got the 250MB system outright thanks to all the bonuses.
Now that all of these durn XBox's have built in wifi, is there any chance they'll drop the wireless adaptor for the original 360 to something less absurd than $99?
I know, I know, I've been living in the dark ages. But $100 for a wireless adaptor? Ghesh.
@element4life3
I want the one with the bigger GEEBEES
@zepfloyd
It has the Wi-Fi's.
@element4life3
One word for this; Lame! Get over your money pinching MS. You could have easily thrown in a 100GB HDD for that price. Talk about greedy!
@element4life3 Don't be silly. It's internal memery for an concle
@Dig Deep Don't be silly it's internal memery
@Martin0044 seriously???? 4gb???? its 2010, not 2002.
@SolidSnake Kinect plus Game = Standalone? Then what do you call it when it's just the Kinect?
@element4life3 : Same pricing and ship date here in Canada... Also, the Xbox 360 4GB will have a matte finish instead of glossy.
http://www.rgbfilter.com/?p=6614
I guess they made the 4GB model because of the fact that if you want DLC or game demos or to install games, it will force most people to fork out for the 250GB one. Few people would buy the 250GB version if a 20-60GB model was on sale.
I was looking forward to getting the lower down model. Don't think I'll bother now. I might just pick up an old Elite model. I'm getting so tired of how expensive gaming has gotten as well as how long you have to wait for decent games to ship.
@JohnnyRocketpants
its only 4gb so that your more willing to pay for the 250Gb or buy a bigger hardrive at there store. To let you guys know its actually only about 2GB.
I got my new slim from costco and the hardrive space with the xbox sku it was like 248Gb. then you have to get those GAME UPDATES so now your down to 1Gb. its not worth it guys get a 250Gb or stick with a normal 360
@Dsi2play
Well, there goes my hope of owning a Kinect; that price is highway robbery. $100 would be the limit; this is only a good deal for someone getting the bundle. As a current 360 owner, I'll pass until the price drops.
Funny I sent a tip in yesterday with proof from a MSFT source the price would be at $149.99, yet it doesnt show up until today........
@Dig Deep
Well, at least it's an infinite percent higher than the current Arcade version with 0GB...
I guess...
@rackdude
It doesn't matter. A 4gb flash drive / sd card / whatever still costs less than $10. Microsoft is being greedy as usual.
@element4life3
If you're talking about trading in at GameStop, they won't give you any extra because it's a MW2 console. Unfortunately they take them all in as the same (just an Xbox360), hard drives trade in seperate. I believe the current trade in value is $60. They sometimes run extra credit for consoles. A couple weeks ago it was an extra $25.
@element4life3
Really I don't see the 4gb as an issue as really from a cost effectiveness perspective we can now use -ANY- external storage device for the X-box 360. I must have over 500 gigs of random flashdrives just laying around and nevermind the 2 terabyte airdrive I have in the house ad nauseum.
Why pay microsoft too much money for 250gb of space?
Oh wait, hell I think I'll just buy this right now to go with my non-annoyingly-shiny arcade model new xbox 360 because I'm not a slave to microsofts crappy marketing.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136395
@element4life3
Remember guys, the 4 Gigs is FLASH memory. That means that it's internal, without a hard drive. It's better than the 256 MB card that you got from the original 360 Arcade.
@element4life3
Anyone know if you can "upgrade" your Arcade to this new one like you could with the Elite?
@element4life3 So, you can buy a Slim now for $299 and pay another $149 for the Kinect when it comes out next month. Or you can wait till next month and save $149 when you get the bundle? Hmm.
@JONNNathannn Its an arcade model :/ not the ultimate edition. The arcade model now only megabytes of space. MB's. It's not for installing games dude... It's a family unit to rival the wii.
@TRACE
Exactly what I'm thinking. They have the wii in the crosshairs with the arcade version. The wii has only 512mb on board. I think an extra $100 is worth the extra storage space, better graphics, and newer motion tech.
@Martin0044 at first i thought u were joking, but your second post made me lol. you spelled memery!
@TinWard or get flashdrives
@element4life3
they priced the bundle smart at 300. its almost like they stopped selling the console on its own.
@BrookLynnsFinest Amazing? How? Doesn't sound like a jet taking off? Doesn't scratch disks? Isn't pretty much guaranteed to die?
Just bought the 250gb slim. I really can't see 4gb being enough.
@TheLeprachaun 4gb of memory for a game system is a f*cking joke
@TheLeprachaun Were u upgrading? Trying to decide if I want the new one
@TheLeprachaun
"I want the one with the bigger GBs."
@ryanbballer54
Yeh mate I was upgrading from the very first xbox 360 model, the one with the white disk tray. I certainly thought it was worth it, for the much larger HDD(only had the 20gb one before) and the fact that it runs so much quieter.
@TheLeprachaun
I think you all are missing the point. The article stated that this new model will have 4GB flash memory and did not state anything about the HDD capacity. This to me looks like it will replace the current Arcade model in which does not have a HDD as well.
@Nanosman1994 They're going from 512MB internal flash to 4GB of internal flash. Seems like an upgrade to me.
@rayonic
I do see the point of this new arcade upgrade. I just know which model I'd prefer, the 250gb one.
@rmcray08 i see what you did there nice..
