Texas Instruments announced earnings for the second quarter of 2005 earlier this afternoon. TI's overall revenue increased 9% over last quarter and their operating profit of $669 million is an all-time high for the company. Total revenues for the quarter topped out at $3.239 billion.

Digging deeper into the earnings release, you can see the impact on increased demand for DLP, or Digital Light Processing chips. DLP chips from Texas Instruments power HDTVs or projectors from at least nine different manufacturers. DLP-specific highlights for the quarter include the arrival of TI's next-generation DLP chip that is capable of 1920 x 1080 (1080p) resolution. Previous generations of the chip were only capable of 1280 x 720 (720p) natively. Samsung, Mitsubushi, Toshiba and HP have all announced HDTVs that will use the new 1080p chip from TI.
