Atari to close its doors ... again?

Given that the company now known as Atari has little to do with the gaming giant of yore, other than owning the name and the rights to a treasure trove of classic games, we shouldn't care a whole lot that the company announced today that its finances are so dire that there's "substantial doubt" that it can continue to function. But the fact is, the Atari name is one that we'd rather not see disappear from the gaming landscape -- especially if it means gear like the Atari Flashback would vanish as well. Of course, Atari has collapsed before, and has always managed to resurface with new backers (the company is currently majority-owned by France's Infogrames Entertainment), so we're pretty confident that, even if the company vanishes, it'll just be a temporary absence.
