Commodore USA Announces New C64x EXTREME with i7 Quad Core CPU
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL. November 1st, 2011 – Commodore USA, LLC announced today that Commodore USA is now shipping production orders for the new Commodore 64 Extreme model (C64x-EX). The C64x Extreme is the most powerful Commodore computer ever produced, running at a whopping 3.3Ghz with Intel's Turbo Boost Technology. Featuring a 2nd generation Sandy Bridge 2.2Ghz 64-bit Intel core i7 (Quad Core/Eight Threads CPU [i7-2720QM]) the C64x Extreme runs fast and cool while providing a massive amount of storage, RAM and I/O options. This includes a 2 TB Hard Drive, 8 Gigabytes of RAM, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 5 USB 2.0 ports, 1 e-SATA port, SPDIF, HDMI, DVI and VGA display connections, a slot loaded R/W DVD drive, built in Ethernet and Wireless n WiFi. Can you imagine all this built into the Commodore 64's diminutive dimensions?
The new C64x Extreme is priced competitively with keyboard-less Nettops like the Apple Mac Mini. The C64x-EX has a high end mechanical keyboard, incorporating genuine Cherry brand "Blue" switches and is built and assembled entirely in the USA. Available in a single configuration priced at $1499, the new C64x Extreme is guaranteed to ship by Dec 15th if ordered before Nov 25th. Recently produced C64x-EX units are in stock and ship within one business day while supplies last.
The C64x-EXTREME comes pre-imaged with Mint 11 and will dual boot with the retro inspired Commodore OS Vision when released.
Commodore USA's mission is to return the passion and user exploration to computing. Mr. Barry Altman, President and CEO of Commodore USA, LLC states, "The Extreme is fast, fun and well suited for computational intensive applications from CAD, video editing, software compilation and sound processing. Our customers don't just use OTS software while consuming media, but rather create and tinker with software while composing their own music, videos and animations; tasks the C64x Extreme is well suited for. Like the C64x Ultimate and VIC-Slim, the C64x Extreme is also fantastic for web surfing, social media and office automation. The Intel HD Graphics 3000 GPU resides on the same die as the 32 NM CPU, making the C64x Extreme super fast for family and retro gaming, and is suitable for all but the most demanding 3D games."
Mr. Altman continues, "A home computer used to be a portal to the future and a pathway of exploration and discovery. Commodore seeks to return that passion and enhance the ability to learn and develop skills in programming, computational media, mathematics, the arts and many other fields, to the mainstream and to the main streets across the globe. Freedom means the ability see all source code and to learn from others. Freedom means to share your learning, your passion and to personalize your environment. A hot house flower grown in a walled garden may look pretty now, but it will eventually fade and lose its passion, yet wild flowers grown in the open sunshine never fail to inspire."
Pre-production units of the C64x Extreme initially shipped with a Blu-ray drive and a 3 TB Hard Drive.; pre-production Commodores always offer greater value for money for those customers and fans willing to wait.
