WRUP: A lonely time of playing
This week was a complex mix of big news and no news. Weeks like this are weird. Your intrepid WoW Insider staff assembles itself, ready to lay down the big news smackdown... and then nothing else comes to light. It's a weird mix of hurry-up-and-wait and "Oh, please, let something happen."
But the reality is that WoD approaches closer with every day. While there's obviously no release date yet, we're getting lots of information from the beta. So when we asked the WoW Insider staff what they're playing this weekend, we also asked them to opine on the state of the beta. Are we looking forward to the expansion as a whole new playground, or are we feeling like the not-time-travel expansion is perhaps a bit lackluster?
Anne Stickney (@Shadesogrey) I am playing the write all the things game. It involves uh, writing all the things! In between that, I'll probably be over on the beta, and playing some WoW as well. Bonus question: I don't know as anything is worth a wait quite as long as this one is stretching out to be, but I love what I've seen so far in beta. The storylines are interesting, there's plenty of new lore, garrisons are pretty cool, it is still weird and yet amazing to see the new models in action, and honestly with all the little behind-the-scenes changes and improvements, it feels kind of like a breath of fresh air. I'd really like it out and playable soon, though.
Dawn Moore (@dawnwow) Raiding on Sunday, being a responsible adult on Saturday. I've been thinking I might break down and play Hearthstone soon (breaking down to play Hearthstone means breaking down to buy an iPad as I refused to play it on desktop).
WoD has been a nice distraction from the humdrum that is live, but it's still just another expansion to me. If you're still playing WoW at this point then obviously it's going to be worth the wait, even if it takes 'til December to launch. That said, every time a new expansion comes out I'm generally of the opinion that the game is better than ever, but I do acknowledge that it's still the same game it's always been. As long as you're still excited about the game, then WoD is something to look forward to. If you've quit WoW and wondering if WoD will make the game worth coming back to, I think the answer is probably no.
Elizabeth Harper (@Faience) I'm still grinding through Loremaster achievements. I'm hoping to finish Northrend this weekend... and maybe I'll find time to get some progress on Outland, too.
For Warlords, I really think there's too much flux happening in the beta to make a good judge of things. I am, however, optimistic. The parts of the beta that are live look fantastic!
Kristin Marshall (@kristin) I'll watch the World Cup Final this weekend and probably play a bit of Hearthstone. My guild downed H Garrosh last reset after over 500 total attempts, so we will try for a repeat kill this weekend. We'll see how it goes! It feels nice to "finish" the game before getting to the point of complete burnout though. Bonus: The wait has been long and it really is hard to stay excited about stuff. That said, I'm still looking forward to new zones and new additions (Corgi pet!).
Matthew Rossi (@MatthewWRossi) I'm playing "I have to go to the Doctor" and the home game "I'm blinded by terror as I always am when I go to the Doctor", so... yeah.
So far what I've seen of Warlords has been excellent.
Sarah Pine (@ilaniel) Playing the moving game. Mister and I get the keys to our new apartment on Saturday, so that's exciting! I doubt I'll have much downtime. Oh, except we've already blocked out time to watch the World Cup Final. My husband is a huge soccer fan; this is his time.
It's getting harder and harder to be excited about WoD the longer the wait drags on. Perhaps not the greatest thing for me to say, but at this point we've been hearing about stuff for so long that by the time it actually comes out it's hard to imagine I'll be able to muster much enthusiasm. I hope I'm wrong, though.
The weekend is the perfect time to kick back, relax and enjoy some game time. Are you an achievement junkie? Can't get enough raiding? Rolling a new alt? Considering taking the leap into roleplaying? Whatever your favorite way to play World of Warcraft, let us know in the comments what you're playing this weekend!
