Here's something that's proudly "Only For PlayStation." Digital Media Mart (DMM) has created a special Blu-ray disc that allows PS3 systems to stream adult videos in HD and SD from its on-demand "DMM.TV" service. While the disc is free for Japanese consumers, the content is not: SD streams are available for ¥500 ($5.25), while HD downloads are available for ¥1480 ($15.55). DMM is working on expanding the service to all hard drive-equipped Blu-ray players; however, for now, PS3 is the only way Japanese consumers will be able to get their hands on ... the service. • Japan's networks buckling under data strain, culprit is exactly what you think

The saturation of high-speed networks is a virtually inevitable side-effect of compatible hardware becoming cheaper and more capable; Japan's been trekking in that direction longer than anyone, and it seems that they're nearing the breaking point. The problem's exacerbated by the fact that truly unlimited usage plans are still available over there -- we bet that doesn't last much longer -- but what's everyone downloading? Porn, of course. All of the local carriers are either clamping down on the heaviest downloaders or are considering doing so; some of the larger content providers say they're signing up over a thousand new users a day, and when you consider that many Japanese are using their phones exclusively for personal internet access, it doesn't take much work to connect the dots. Can't someone please, like, invent more spectrum space?[Thanks, Will]

  • Apple's App Store approves first explicit content, Anita Bryant races to Cincinnati

After all the cases of benign apps being rejected on grounds of "objectionable content," the first outright application featuring jiggly bits has made it to the App Store. How could this happen? Easy, Apple's shift in policy is made possible by the parental controls included in the iPhone OS 3.0 -- you know, so you can parent instead of Apple. Hopefully this brings an end to arbitrary App Store rejections and begins a new era of fire and brimstone threats of eternal damnation.[Via MacRumors] Read [Warning: not safe for work]

Make no mistake, the crew at Digital Playground has been busy. Real busy. Since going Blu-ray exclusive last June, the famed adult film studio has pushed out a staggering amount of titles on the high-def format. A full 100 of 'em, in fact. The company's Bad Girls will be its 100th Blu-ray release, a 100-minute feature (fitting, no?) that is slated to ship on March 31st. 'Course, you'll be paying a $30 premium for the BD edition over the $29 DVD, but how else will you truly be able to appreciate that RED ONE footage?[Via I4U News]

Last summer, Hustler TV and Digital Playground banged out a deal to get the latter company's content on the former's network. Now, all of that is about to get a lot more intriguing to fans of said material and high-definition. Hustler TV has just announced the outfit's forthcoming high-def broadcast service: HustlerHD. Slated to go live on May 1st, the service will not broadcast a single moment of content that's just upconverted standard-def material. Instead, every title will be "filmed, edited and broadcast in true HD." Additionally, HustlerHD will be the exclusive home to shows from HD-producing studios including Digital Playground, Hustler Video and Zero Tolerance.

  • Hand balm over here! Left 4 Dead gets erotic

Okay, we're not going to sugarcoat this: Somebody decided to make the worst porn parody ever. It's called Left 4 Head and, as one might imagine, is based on Left 4 Dead. It stars the game's only female survivor, Zoey. We're not sure why someone would want to combine zombies and copious amounts of gettin' it on (death isn't exactly sexy, amirite?), but, hey, "dead" and "head" rhyme, so we can understand how someone came up with the idea. The thing that we're still stuck on is the why.For a full breakdown of the plot, you'll want to check out our synopsis here.[Note: any and all comments containing links to the *ahem* "film" will be deleted -- so don't even think about it. Hugs and kisses, Joystiq.]

  • 30 Rock: Tracy Jordan's porno video game sells 61m units

Back in May, we heard 30 Rock character Tracy Jordan was putting the finishing touches on his pornographic video game Goregasm: The Legend of the Dong-Slayer. Since then, according to the 30 Rock season premiere that debuted on Hulu this week, the title has gone on to sell 61 million units. That amounts to an average of approximately 360,947 each day. Comparatively, as of March 2008, Hot Coffee-laden Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has sold just 21.5 million in its then-1,247 day lifetime. At $60 per game (the price according to Jordan), we're looking at $3.66 billion in sales (approx. $217m daily). When reminded that most games are made by a large team of developers and that he can't keep those billions of dollars, Jordan responded, "I don't know, I think I did it alone." No word yet on the inevitable sequel, Goregasm 2: The Dong Slayer Electro-erotic Boogaloo Massacre. Video of Jordan's announcement after the break. Update: Corrected the title of Jordan's game and, subsequently, our prediction for the sequel's title.

  • Playboy phasing out DVD in favor of internet content

This year has seen porn studio Digital Playground go Blu and a growth in adult VOD offerings on the market, and even the venerable Playboy has seen declining DVD sales. But rather than jump on the Blu bandwagon, the house that Hef built is taking a more Vudu-like approach and giving up on physical media altogether in favor of online distribution. As the linked article describes, changes in the adult media market since Playboy's inception have a lot to do with the company's current troubles, but you can't totally dismiss the decision to skip over Blu-ray either. For now, we'll categorize this under "notable;" Playboy is only one producer and porn is a natural fit for anonymous delivery via internet and VOD. What's your call?

We'd stop short of calling it inevitable, but we aren't shocked one bit to hear that on-demand porn has landed on VUDU's set-top-box. Adult Video Network (AVN) has developed a channel for VUDU which enables users to rent and purchase SD or HD films just like any other less explicit title. As expected, users would be asked to first "verify their age" and clear parental controls before anything on the channel could be viewed. Interested in pricing details? Try $6.99 / $19.99 for SD rentals / purchases and $8.99 / $29.99 for HD rentals / purchases.[Via CEPro]

Two of the biggest names in the adult film industry have just signed a deal that could put rivals in a world of hurt. The "worldwide exclusive agreement" will seemingly enable Digital Playground content to be offered via Hustler TV's HD video-on-demand portal, and considering that a number of DP's films have already been shot entirely in high-def, there's a decent library of footage ready to get down. Reportedly, Hustler TV is already in 45 million homes in the US and can be seen in 50 countries worldwide, though the release didn't state when viewers could look forward to catching Pirates or Island Fever 3 at the press of a button.

We're not ones to peruse the seedy underbelly of the adult film industry (hard to believe, with us working on the internet and all), but this story is too much to pass up. Does the above cover remind you of anything? Well, if it doesn't, you probably never played the Japanese title Brain Training (also known as Brain Age). Look at the game's boxart. See what we mean?If you want to know more, you can check out Hikaru Wakana's blog (NSFW linkage), who is the film's star.

Happy Tuesday, everyone. Today's Maintenance will actually be pretty painless for most of us. The servers will go down at 5am PDT, about half an hour from now, and should be up by 5:30, according to Bornakk. Aussie servers won't be going down until 5 AM AEST. However, there are a few servers that are getting some extra downtime. They will be going down until approximately 6:30 AM PDT. You can find can a list of the affected servers on the downtime post. Even if most of us will be cruising past maintenance with minimal downtime, Tuesday morning's as good a time as any to get caught up on WoW news. The biggest news, of course, is that Season 4 is on the way, coming to us on June 24th. Read all about it here, then find out everything you need to know to get started with Season 4 at WoW Insider, starting with these articles:
