Arm morphed into Metroid tribute
Aeropause's Stephen Munn is either a fan of Metroid or of spherical game characters. We have yet to hear of any Kirby or Lolo tattoos, so we'll assume the former. This tattoo featuring Samus Aran curled up into a Morph Ball, based on Metroid Prime concept art, is worth at least five incomprehensible kanji tattoos and three or four skulls. It's that good.To (total weenies like) us, the most impressive thing about tattoos is that each one represents so much physical pain. For example, Stephen here loves Metroid so much that he was willing to be burned continuously with a needle for three hours. We haven't even committed to buying fabric for a plush Metroid yet.
Irresponsible kids express their love for each other, live to regret it
Pokemaniac couple Andy and Jess decided to memorialize their devotion to each other recently by having a water-based Pokemon tattooed onto their girlish frames. According to Wikipedia, the matching Luvdiscs inked onto their stomachs promise "a loving relationship that never ends." Good luck on that, kids. We'll see how much Andy loves that Luvdisc tattoo when he's 38 years old, Jess has been long forgotten, and dudes keep winking at him every time he brings his kids to the neighborhood swimming pool. I think we can all agree that there's only one Pokemon worth permanently etching into your skin -- Meowth. [Via The Tanooki]
How much do you love Warcraft?
Sevenfold loves the Horde. Not like "I will die for the Horde! And then switch to Rogue to farm primals for awhile." I mean "is there any way to make my arm bigger so the tattoo will fit?" That's how much he loves the Horde.I've heard of people getting married at Blizzard conventions or doing outrageous things for Murloc suits, but permanent ink doesn't come out in the wash, if you know what I mean. This one is just one in the latest of Warcraft ink we've talked about, but I have to throw in my two cents here.I love the game. I really do. And I have a tattoo, though not Warcraft related, so I understand the passion that moves on to get inked. But I'm not sure I would get a Warcraft themed tattoo. Think about it. Would it have to go next to your Everquest tat? Your Meridian59 piercing? Your picture of your son named Zork? What about you? Do you love Warcraft so much you would permanently emblazon it on your body? And, if so, why?
Show and Tell: Zelda week, day two
It's another day, and that means another round of our special Zelda week edition of Show and Tell, DS Fanboy's reader spotlight. Today, we're looking at some very permanent marks of Zelda love: gamer tattoos. It takes a truly dedicated fan -- perhaps we should call them fanboys (or fangirls) -- to etch their undying love for our Hylian hero into their very flesh, and we can do nothing but admire such pure allegiance. We salute you -- right after the break.Do you have some awesome Zelda gear? Anything from t-shirts to tattoos, to statues and standees, if it features Link, we want to help you show it off. Snap some pics and send 'em to showmeit [at] dsfanboy [dot] com. We'll be here all week.
Weight loss program in Wrath of the Lich King?
While browsing the forums earlier today, I came across this strange yet thought-provoking question in a thread created by Laurelyn."I rerolled a BELF Pally and leveled her to 44, however after playing my trim little girl for a month or two I came back to my human paladin only to find the pally I once loved and saw as curvaceous now seems to me .. well significantly over weight. Will I have the opportunity to perhaps enroll her in a weight loss program when WotLK comes out?"While I don't think that the human female models in game are anything even remotely close to overweight, it is an interesting question. We've reported on the new ways that WotLK may change your character's appearance in the past. Wouldn't this qualify as just another way to alter your character's appearance? What do you think? Would you want to make your character more thin (or heavier) if you could?
Halo Legendary tattoo gets shady
We're guessing he's getting ready to *groan* finish the fight. Originally reported on by X3F near the holidays last year, this Halo tattoo features the "legendary level" symbol taking up much of one man's back. The tattoo is slowly coming along as "GothicSlayer" gathers the cash to finish it. The latest installment fills in and gives shading to the Elite skull. Maybe Santa will bring him the cash to finish it before the end of the year.We think if there is anybody who deserves a Halo 3 Xbox 360 from Microsoft it's this guy. The man is a walking advertisement/conversation piece on any beach. Although you probably can't best him, if you've got Xbox related tattoos to show off, X3F is taking submissions. You won't win anything but the glory of internet fame, and isn't that all anyone needs?
Ouch, the Legendary tattoo is back
Way back in December of aught-six we ran a story about a man known only as GothicSlayer, a man who decided to adorn his back with a legendary tattoo ... literally. Yes, as you can see above, he chose to have the Legendary difficulty icon from Halo -- with its (appropriately) iconic shield, swords, and Elite skull -- permanently etched into his back. It looks like he's gotten the cash to complete the second phase of his tattoo, as the Elite skull is now fully shaded, and looking much more impressive if we do say so. GothicSlayer informs us that the redness of the tattoo is the result of irritation, so it will most likely fade to a more artsy black and white affair over time.If anyone else out their has an Xbox related tattoo, please don't hesitate to share it with us.

N64 Rumble Pak perfect prison tattoo gun
A Kotaku reader, and prison guard extraordinaire, recently wrote in to talk about prisoners and their love of video games. Turns out, some U.S. prisons provide inmates with money to acquire video game systems as a reward for their hard work. This made the prison guards' jobs that much more difficult, though, as inmates would use the video game systems and various components to create things that weren't intended with their design. For example, inmates would take the motor out of the N64 Rumble Pak and in combining it with some ink and a needle, could fashion it into a makeshift tattoo gun. We imagine many of the convicts on the receiving end of such a tattoo weren't getting Mario's face put on their body. [Thanks, hvnlysoldr!]
Man gets BSOD message tattooed on his arm
If anyone gave that Zune tattoo guy props for his bravery / stupidity, you owe a handful of kudos to this fellow, too. In an admittedly bizarre move to show one's disdain (right?) for the always infuriating Blue Screen of Death, this man has went so far as to tattoo the BSOD error message on his arm, presumably as a battle scar for all those Windows driver installations gone terribly awry. Next up? We're betting on a Kernel Panic tat for arm number two.[Via Tumbl, thanks Laura]
Zune tattoo guy gets Microsoft's attention
The man so devoted to all things Zune that he got not one but two Zune tattoos looks to have finally drawn the attention of Microsoft itself, which has decided to fly its biggest fan out to Redmond and give him the star treatment. In a post on the Zune Scene message boards, "mszunefan" says that he'll be making the trip on July 5th, during which he'll do an interview for Microsoft's Channel 10 and then meet his heroes: a no doubt slightly unnerved Zune team. We have to say we're kinda glad that Microsoft stepped in when it did, there's no telling where the next tattoo might have ended up.[Via Zune Boards, thanks Mike]
Cool WoW ink!
While floating through the blogosphere looking for WoW tidbits the other day, I stumbled across a blurb featuring the picture on the above right. It didn't say too much about it, beyond that the girl who had the tattoo played a Tauren Warrior, and that she and her other half had matching tribal Horde symbols done. Now, I should preface this with the fact that I'm no stranger to body art either, having 7 tattoos myself. (all of which are easily hidden -- hooray corporate America) It simply got me wondering just how much WoW ink was out there and what kind of designs people were getting.Armed with Google, search terms, and rampant curiosity, I set off in the search of World of Warcraft ink and the people behind it.
Wii Warm Up: Do you rep gaming through tattoos?
You can see reader Nate's dual tattoos on the right, which he sent to us in response to a pair of stories about fabulous gaming tattoos. So, we started wondering who of you out there have gaming ink on their body somewhere. Personally, we're big crybabies when it comes to needles (seriously, stay away with those things), so a tattoo is out of the question for us, but we can imagine what it might look like; a large Samus graces our chest, firing at a Metroid.Do you have one? Are you waiting to get one when you come of age? Afraid of needles as we are?
Bowser and Mario battle it out on the body
Reader Jason wrote in to show us a pair of tattoos he has gracing his body, on each of his ankle's to be precise. He told us he had read another story showcasing another sweet gaming tattoo and felt his would be appreciated. Oh, they are! We've never seen such sweet Mario and Bowser tattoos before. They're so sweet, in fact, we were sure they were photochopped fakes.
Link inked
What better way to get gamer kudos than having your favourite character inked into your arm forever? Reader Mike Corbett sent us this fantastic Link tattoo, done by his wife. It's a great likeness of Zelda's hero. How about you, fanboy readers? How do you show your devotion to gaming? Let us know, and send us pictures![Thanks, Mike!]
The Zelda tattoos, or, An Ink to the Past
Hello, I'm not sure if we met. I'm Joystiq writer Justin McElroy, and that's my calf. A couple of years ago my two brothers and dad and I started thinking about getting a shared tattoo after my mom passed away. Since we had just been through some bad stuff, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Grief's funny like that. We were all gamers, there were three brothers, so the Triforce seemed a natural fit. We made the decision to do it, then promptly didn't for two years, because I was a wimp.
Apple Tattoo: Now that's a fan girl
In my time I've been accused of being an Apple fanboy, but this girl takes it to the next level. On celebritytattoos.org we find this lovely collection of the 32 geekiest tattoos, with our favorite company logo clearly taking pride of place. I can't say I approve, but you've got to respect the Apple devotion! You just have wonder how she's going to feel about it in a few years.[Via Digg]

RFID tattoos for tracking cows... and people
Did you know that Saint Louis based Somark Innovations successfully tested an "RFID tattoo" on cows and rats? Yes indeed, tattoo, not the ol' RFID chip found in passports, dogs, and Dutch VIP clubbers. Somark's system uses an array of needles to inject a passive RFID ink which can be read through the hair on your choice of beast. The ink can be either invisible or colored but Somark is keeping mum as to its exact contents. They only say that it doesn't contain any metals and is 100% biocompatible and chemically inert. The tattoo can be applied in 5 to 10 seconds with no shaving involved and can be read from up to 4 feet away -- the bigger the tattoo, the more information stored. Best of it all, it's apparently safe for humans to ingest allowing the FDA to track back Mad Cow Disease, e-coli outbreaks, and Soylent Green. Don't worry, they can't track you just as long as you chew your food like mama taught. However, with "military personnel" listed as Somark's "secondary target market," well, it's just a matter of time before we're all cattle now isn't it.[Via The Register]
A legendary Xbox tattoo
Okay, so, we're fanboys. That's a given. We love the Xbox, the Xbox 360, and whatever other wünderbox Microsoft has in store for us next. Halo runs in our veins. We played hours and hours and hours of it back in the day. Yes, we love all things Xbox, but we're not sure we love them as much as this guy. Known only as GothicSlayer*, he has decided not to waste the valuable real estate on his back, opting instead to cover it with the Legendary crest found in the Halo series. As it stands it's only an outline, but he plans to get more of the detail filled in as he gets the money to do so (you can get tattoos in installments?). We've seen our share of gaming tattoos, but so far this one takes the cake, kills it, and then eats the cake's children. Let us know how it turns out, GothicSlayer.Anybody else have any game tattoos they'd like to share with the rest of the class?[Via HBO]*So, does that mean he is a Gothic who slays people, or is he a slayer that chooses to kill Gothics?
