The JonesCAM 480EX Helmet Camera System
Stoked as we would be to spot some of those helmet cam-wearing boys in blue sporting the JonesCAM 480EX while
they're guarding next week's Republican National
Convention, something tells us they'll be going for something a little more subdued (and that isn't designed for
downhill skiers).

Before you buy from JonesCAM, check out their customer service very carefully. My experience with this company has been atrocious, they refuse to respond to emails, telephone calls, and have simply taken my money without delivering a single thing. Are they still in business (9/04)?
Buyer beware.

We had a similar experience, ended up trying a standard package from www.xtremerecall.com
Best customer service I've dealt with in a long time...have used them ever since.

Frank and Ben,
I would have to disagee with you 110%. Take a look at there testamonial page and client list. JonesCAM has been so good to me hooking me up with great equpitment and if I had a problem it was fixed or replaced no questions asked. I have a production company in Washington and we use these cameras all the time they are the best there is nothing out there that is better.

I think Twenty20 is the only camera company that sells their cameras through reputable dealerships. I got mine at a bike shop in Cali. I didn't want to deal with the online only guys because of the potential service issues. When I had issues hooking up my camcorder I took it into the shop and they called the manufacturer and took care of the problem for me. Now that's customer service you can't get with an online site. They don't even sell on their site, they just list their dealers.

Matt, have to agree with Ben and Frank on this one. Xtreme Recall (www.xtremerecall.com) easily makes the highest end helmet camera. Compare the specs with Jonescam and they aren't even in the same zip code. Ditto on Twenty20 (low res cmos). Besides Xtreme Recall actually answers the phone...

JonesCAM blows XtremeRecall away in price and features and their customer service is great! I had to get a camera for a weekend motocross race and they rushed it to me overnight in time for me to make sure everything worked before I got to the track.
XtremeRecalls "low profile package" is $469 for the same camera. 520 lines color Ex-View is impossible according to Sony specifications http://www.sony.co.jp/~semicon/english/img/sony01/a6805275.pdf
it is only Black and white at 520 lines and it can only do 480 lines of color. I don't trust what anybody says about lines of resolution except the CCD manufacturer themselves) All they add is an overpriced camelpak. For $350 I got the same system as xtremeRecall from JonesCAM with their rechargeable LI-ION battery for over $100 less. Besides Id trust JonesCAM a lot more with Patents and the client-base that they have. Its not a mom and pop shop like xtremerecall.

i have a xtreme recall low profile system i use for IPSC. picked it due to: vacuum sealed cameras, waterproof mics and much simpler cable system. jonescam doesnt offer any of these features. the camelbak xtreme recall shipped has a special cut foam insert and is slightly modified in a couple other areas too. it isnt your normal camelbak off the shelf. thats where your extra $100 goes. quality costs more. Also viosport and a couple others have 520 exview.. are you going to tell us they are all wrong? Ben, sounds a lot like you work for jonescam. thats lame. stop badmouthing an otherwise fine company and go spam somewhere else.
Matt Nelson @ Dec 19th 2005 12:04AM
david I agree with you on somethings and not others, but paying $100 for foam I would rather do it myself and I'm not sure about a waterproof mic just looked on the site did not see anything about that. We can all argue untill we are blue in the face, but it all comes do to what we like. Personnally I like jonescam, I have been using it for a few years and it works for what I do and when I call I get a human, not a machine I got to talk to like other companies these days. Yeah the cabling needs to be upgraded and I talked to them about it and they told me that something is in the works, but they would not tell me what. Viosport has a great products not sure about the new cabling they have looks a little heavy to me. Extreme recall just does not do it for me. 520 could be what Ben is saying or it could not, the fact of the matter is lets put a 480 and a 520 on a normal household TV are you really going to see the difference, I doubt it. If you look at the specs of all the cameras out there they are all around the same. So basically it comes down to what's the biggest bang for your buck and my buck goes to jonescam.

I doing a search for video and I found this. I have an Xtreme Recall cam system their 480 line camera. It looks great to me, even blown up on a big screen. The microphones are water proof, that was a big deal for me as I do most of my riding in the winter up here in OR. But what sold me was the cabling, it was much so much cleaner, the sales guy was very helpful took his time to explain everything.
As for the foam and pack, it all came with my system, but it would be worth the extra money. Just makes the system that much easier to use with the mods. I dont know if I was lucky or not but I came off the bike 2 months ago and my camcorder was fine.
