Photo iPod becoming a reality?
The rumors about this have been flying since March,
but now Think Secret confirms that a 60GB iPod with a 2-inch color screen and the ability to sync up with iPhoto for
viewing digital photos is due out sometime in the next 30 to 60 days and will retail for $499. It'll also have
audio/video-out capabilities for hooking up to a TV, but there still won't be any support for video playback, so dreams
of a video iPod remain deferred.
P.S. - The photo at right is just a mock-up.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this one in]

Make it useful by adding a megapixel camera to the back. I always thought converging media types made sense, rather than phones and PDAs.
play video, take video
take pics, display pics.
play music! enough converging already. Next thing you know they will be converging a stove and a refrigerator... aah wait, they've already done that. Dagnabit. :-P
This looks cool and will make me geekier than ever. BITCHES!
hey what is with everyone so obsessed with ipods?!
to put it simply....they suck
no battery life no colour screen
no voice recorder no radio
no usb on the go (which allows u to plug in usb storage devices straight into it)
no ums firmware easily scratched
hmmm...what has all this i wonder....
i know! its called the iriver h320!
so y dont all u losers do some research and find out how crap ipods r and how good irivers r
Yeah, iRiver has more bullet points on their list (well, until the new one is out apparently). But the iPod has all the core points needed to play audio well, and does everything with a style and grace that iRiver can only dream about.
In other words, It's not what the iPod does that attracts everyone. It's how the iPod does it.
Rember back in high school that one guy had all the girls cuz he was "pretty boy," and now rember you had the nice little corner all by your self!!!
well that's the difference. :-D
you are to simple to have to figure out another UI, then you suck. learn something for once people. this is like the old pc/mac fight.... a computer is a computer - if you have a brain they are all the same. make them work for you ya dolts.
as the owner of an iRiver 120 (got it free!)...iPod beats it on design appeal and interface / ease of use. That's the difference - and frankly - it's a big one. The 120's joystick thingy SUCKS...not sure about the new ones, but man it stinks...scrolling takes forever - it's slippery - it tends to go in the wrong direction - and, I STILL don't know how to use the thing properly (i.e., complicated). How many people would use a voice recorder? the radio? or the flash thingy?
I'm with the first guy...targeted convergence would make sense. For instance, a cell phone - nothing fancy - just to make calls and take calls...
Heh, this is another idiocy, with a crap battery life this thing wont be worth bothering with!
Once the iPods get Quicktime and can sync with iDisk we are one step closer to viewing TV adverts, music videos, home video with anyone global .
Sorry to pick a nit, but only Apple can "confirm" anything about the iPod Photo 60G. ThinkSecret is only a rumor site, albeit usually a reliable one.
Without a built-in media reader, the photo functionality in this unit is going to be of limited utility, and the color display will mostly be used to display album cover art.
It would be great if the iPod had a female USB 2.0 jack into which you could plug a standard USB media reader, or a USB flash drive. You can use Belkin's proprietary media reader for iPod, but that won't work with anything else, so on a trip you would still have to pack both a media reader for the iPod and one for regular PCs or Macs.
"you are to simple to have to figure out another UI, then you suck. learn something for once people. this is like the old pc/mac fight.... a computer is a computer - if you have a brain they are all the same."
Yeah, OK. That's like saying if you can't make a Yugo drive like a BMW, you suck. Interface matters. Audio quality matters. Ease of use matters. Those of us with a life would rather spend our time listening to music than figuring out crappy interfaces.
Okay, two questions here assuming it's true. First, what kind of battery life is this going to get? This isn't an attempt to bash Apple, but a real question considering current 4G iPods with smaller drives and black and white screens get a max of 12 hours. The other question is will HP also be selling these? Many times the HP counterparts seem to go for much less than retail.
Does anyone have the original mistranslated catprin website? I've been searching for it for years since they replaced the original with a bad but not hilarious translation.
(It's the cat in the frog hat, for those less mired in internet backwaters.)
Cant wait to get mine.
YES iPODS DO SUCK COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!! http://www.anti-ipod.co.uk/ NUFF SAID!
