ScanZOOM: Can I get a price check?

Maybe a little less urgent now that you can search our new best friend Froogle via SMS text message, but Scanbuy has just properly released ScanZOOM, a software app for cameraphones that let's you comparison shop by snapping a picture of a product's barcode and then automatically pull up price information from PriceGrabber and Amazon. Only 16 phones supported at the moment (the Treo 600, Nokia 6600, 6620, 7650, 3650, and 7610, and Sony Ericsson P800, P900, and P910 are on the list). Good for eliminating buyer's remorse, but wanna bet that when retailers finally get clued into this that they're not gonna be too happy?

I'm not going to be paying for a service like this without being able to try it out first. I would rather try it and make sure it works than part with the $20 and find out it doesn't. The macro lens is a nice idea, since most camera phones don't take good pictures real close up.

What retail stores let you take cameras in there and start snapping photos? they can stop it and chaulk it up to privacy issues. Duh. Dead before its born.

the chumps even try to charge you 5 bucks for shipping, they don't want this service to take off.

The reason they are charging you shipping is because they are actually shipping you a physical item in the mail not just for the service. Notice how if you buy the webcam edition there is no shipping? I think this is awesome since there have been many times when I am in the store wondering if I could find a better deal online but not wanting to find out that the answer is no and have to go back to the store.

I was jazzed about this until I saw the pricetag. For now I use PalmPrices on my Treo 600 (http://www.palmprices.com/download.html) and will be checking out Google's SMS.
