The Treo 650 gets some Bluetooth love from Audi
The iPod and the BMW are already best friends (or something along those lines), but not to be outdone, palmOne
proves it can pimp a German ride as well as the next gadget maker and has teamed up with Audi. The gist of the deal is
that Bluetooth-enabled Audi cars'll be able to automatically pair up with palmOne's new Treo 650 for use as hands-free
speakerphone and that you'll also be able to use the smartphone to control various features of the car (though we're
not quite sure which ones). Expect some sort of big proper announcement soon, but palmOne was already showing this
dealy off at CTIA the other day.

Read the original post. Did they specifically mention the bluetooth headset in this article that they are giving away today? No. Did you win? No. Should you continue to post the "Do I win?" comments in every article? No. Were you able to read and follow directions in school. Probably not.

Since BMWs now have (optional) bluetooth support, is it safe to assume that the 650 will work in a Bimmer as well as in an Audi? Or is there something special going on here?

I was at the CTIA show and I checked out the Audi deal. Overall, it is far from slick:
* While you can access the Palm address book from the Audi nav screen, you must first manually "sync" the Palm address book to the Audi. Update an address in your Palm? You must sync again! Weak.
* The Treo plays MP3s, but you can't stream them to the car. Weak
* The Treo can access the Internet, but the car can't do so through the Treo because carriers block this feature (internet access via bluetooth). Weak
* While we were getting a demo of the system, the car shut off in mid-call (to save its battery). We had been talking handsfree when the car shut off. Amazingly, when the car shut off, the call was dropped! Instead, the Treo should have simply switched to speaker phone or regular phone mode. Weak

BMWs support the Handsfree Bluetooth profile and the Headset profile although you get less features if the phone only supports Headset. With Headset, the address book is fully integrated into the radio display - really cool to see on a BMW equipped with a NAV screen.

So, I have the new 2005 Audi A6 and the Treo 650. Integration is not seemless. Recogition of the 650 by the vehicle does not occur unless a call is made or received. Can anyone help me??????
Greg @ Dec 19th 2005 12:05AM
All is well after downloading the Treo 650 carkit updater. System is working great now.
Gary Rall @ Dec 19th 2005 12:05AM
BMW is not working with the TREO 650. Nobody I know of has successfully got the TREO to sync and transfer the telephone book. A lot of folks think it will work and say that it should work but nobody has been able to verify that it works... at least I have not found one person yet and I am still waiting.

Hi
I am looking into getting the treo 650 and also have the 2005 Audi A6. I would like to know if your treo's address book is accessible from the audi nav screen.
Scott @ Dec 19th 2005 12:05AM
I have confirmed with BMW that they do not intend on supporting the Treo 650 (sprint in my case) but I did get them to send me the pdf instructions on how to activate a blue tooth device which I tried and to my shock was able to get my phone recognized and further more was able to make calls with. All of my favorites showed up via the car menu and I did not have any troubles with the phone rebooting as some have. I do have the latest updater 1.08 for the phone firmware.

I have a Treo 650 and the 2005 Audi A6. What do I need to be able to use this phone in my car? If I can make and receive calls, I would be happy.
Teresa @ Dec 19th 2005 12:05AM
Oops, I have a Treo 600 smartphone and a 2005 Audi A6 with bluetooth capabilities. Can these two work together, what do I need to make it happen?
Steve Davis @ Dec 19th 2005 12:05AM
The BMW now works with the new 1.13 updater from PalmOne for the Sprint PCS Treo 650.
