More thin CRT televisions on the way

LG.Philips have joined Samsung in the race
to bring slim CRT televisions to market. Created to compete with flat screen plasma and LCD televisions, the new
televisions are slated to be available sometime in 2005. While they won't be as slim and wall-mountable as their
flatscreen brethren, the new thin CRTs will come in at around 16-inches deep. It looks like the LG.Philips model
will appear before Samsung's. Expect prices to be fit nicely in that niche: more than standard CRTs, but less
than plasmas and LCDs.
I reallllly want one of these. I have a Samsung 42" projection HDTV, and it just doesn't compare to a good CRT. After 1.5 years the sharpness has fallen way off and there's burn-in on the sides from watching too much in 4:3. I could live with the burn-in if my video games looked good on it, but man...
CRT all the way! Also, I can't afford plasma!
Ugly frame around it, I hope it comes in another color. That looks like something from the 70’s.
Gonna be tough making a market for these. CRT sizes are limited. They're talking about a 30" model. A syntax 30" lcd is as low as $1000 right now. By end of next year when this crt is released LCDs will be cheaper. Current regular HD CRTs cost from 600-1000 and this thin CRT is supposed to cost more. Where's the market for it? CRTs have better image quality going for them but in 2 years when OLED and SED are out with their lower cost and better picture quality y would u buy this CRT.
From my understanding another advantage of CRT (if manufactures would make use of it) Is that they can be multi scan variable resolution. So one can see the media source at its true resolution not up/down converted to fit the fix, native resolution of a LCD. Having said this most CRT HDTV sets are not multi scan. Maybe only computer monitors multi-scan. The pureist in me says 'give me a multi-scan display and don't mess with the source signal.
A clarification in the company name is needed here. LG.Philips Displays make CRTs. LG.Philips LCD make LCDs. These are two different companies. LG.Philips LCD went public (NYSE: LPL) and LG.Philips Displays is still a joint venture between LGE from Korea and Philips Electronics from the Netherlands. Both are located in Gumi, South Korea though. So, here you clearly want to delineate by saying that LG.Philips Displays...blah blah blah
The thin CRT may be heavier and slightly bulkier than the LCD, but it's other attributes are superb. Doubtful that many flat displays using any technology will be wall mounted, but rather will be placed on a stand or table. So the weight and bulk are less of a negative attribute. Even a table mounted LCD will not stand upright without feet, so depth becomes a consideration. As for competition with plasma, in a couple of years there will not be any plasma. Every manufacturer of plasma today is seeking an alternative. Canon has already announced their replacement of plasma with SED technology. There is some doubt that this will be a viable, manufacturable technology as it closely resembles the now defunct FED technology. And finally, we are already seeing a consolidation of flat display manufacturers as smaller companies can not make it alone. It is also a fact that no company today is making money with flat display manufacturing and the prospects of this situation improving in the future are nil. With the advent of the new thin CRTs, the past manufacturers of CRTs that have sold their facilities are probably having second thoughts about now. There is a new revolution coming in medium size TV displays and it will be based on the CRT !
Everybody has their favorites, but product longevity is a factor in purchasing for me.
I have a CRT in my home that is over 15 years old and still puts out a very nice analog picture.
How will LCDs, plasmas, sed, fed, dlp, etc. hold up?
I also like the viewing angle and black levels of a CRT. What's not to like?
I'm buying one of these thin CRTs just as soon as I can find one in a retail store. This is exciting....
I plan to purchase the first slimfit 27" CRT television with HD I can get my hands on. It's the only HD that is reasonably priced that will last and fit in my expensive armore cabinet. I'm sure that I'm not the only person in this category; these TV's should be a smash hit!
This is great news. I tried an LCD TV recently. It just did not cut it and went straight back to store. LCD contrast level is awful. It only looks nice when you are watching cartoon. But when there is a moving and shiny natural face, it shows me a blob of color.
I definitely will buy one if the price is right. I can't imagine sacrificing picture quality for the look of the TV. Sure, thin is nice, but my TV is not just a piece of furniture .... :)

difinately this is better for the tow worlds world of slimness and world of cheapness now the crt as i evaluate is more better than the lcd ....crt is better in brightness and contrast better in price better in its repairability better in its longlife and viewing angle ...with the slim crt its good in its space saving and flatness of the screen
