DirecTV's DVR also cuts the cord, uh oh Tivo

DirecTV DVR

Yesterday DirecTV announced they were on track to launch their own DVR in 2005, that's all well and good. But as if TiVo hasn't been through enough lately, one of their biggest distribution channels and most widely adopted customer bases straight up announced their decision to sever ties with TiVo. We'd kind of hoped that their new DVR would get play as an alternative to TiVo; but instead of continuing to work with DirecTiVos (which two of their three customers have) they're cutting support as soon as their contract expires in 2007. The affair ends later this year in terms of distribution though, and DirecTV's new lover will be designed by NDS, which we gave some face-time yesterday.
