Olympus @ CES - Hands-on with the m:robe MR-500i and MR-100

CES m:robe MR-500i

While we were really impressed with Olympus shifting gears and whipping up the m:robes, we took a look and what can we say? The MR-500i is wholly reminiscent of a design mockup for some futuristic multimedia device intended to give the think-tank and R&D boys something to do in the off season. It's very pretty, its touch screen interface is hugely appealing, but the MR-500i's photo-slideshow-set-to-music tilt (they call it "remixing music and photos") only answers a question that hasn't been asked (and doesn't manage to answer the ones that have, like portable video or PDA functionality). As for the MR-100, well, all we can tell you is that it's on a very short list of players out right now with any jam on the iPod mini—it's a little large, but so slick and light, we'll let it slide. MR-500i: 0, MR-100: 1.

P.S. - If you?re thinking of buying either of these, invest in some wipes or something. You?ll be needing to degrease the glossy body once every 15 seconds or so.
