Turn your iPod into an iPod shuffle...
Three easy steps for turning any iPod into an iPod shuffle, courtesy of "mhusson":
1. Get a Post-It note
2. Get your iPod
3. Put the Post-It note on the iPod
Now you can enjoy the iPod Shuffle's cool new feature without having to go buy a new player. Enjoy!
See, you just saved yourself a hundred bucks.

Now erase all but 120 of your songs...

YAY, what a wonderful new idea!
Don't forget you'll have to slice it in half too.
Haha, awesome. Just need to go find some post-it notes and I'm sorted!
Remember: Do not eat the post it.

Haha, awesome. Just need to go find some post-it notes and I'm sorted!"
Now you being 'sorted' defeats the purpose of post it notes and 'shuffle' now doesnt it? ;)
Turn your Ipod into an Ipod shuffle. Lol, yeah, that's about the truth of it.
Now we can run around like mindless shuffle-clicking music-junkie drones that don't even need to so much as exert two milliwatts of energy to look at a display. Wheeeeeeee!!!
Ipod shuffle. No thanks. Give me one of these Etalon's instead: http://portableaudio.engadget.com/entry/1234000930026729/
Post-it needs to come up with a shiny white iCover, and sell it for $50. Half the price of the shuffle!!! How could you not buy something that is half the price of the already affordable shuffle?
this just in...apple will be selling post-it notes for this conversion. 150$ gets you 5
post-its in green, blue, silver, gold, and pink (but the pink does not really look like pink)
Wonderful:) LOL
But maybe duct tape will be more durable?
Are we going to see this on hackaday tomorrow? ;)
this just in, jokers on engadget who turned there ipods into ipod shuffles end up with defective hard drives and loss of data due to too much acitivity during use.
as of yet, no similar stories from legitimate ipod shuffle uers, back to u philip.
They all laughed at Christopher Columbus, when he said the world ain't flat, they all laghed when Edison recorded sound...
The all laughed at Apple and their shuffle, when they said you need no screen...
and users of legitimate flash players like the various excellent iriver players and the new muvos get the same joy as ipod shuffle users along with being able to see their music and at a better price.
Back to you
And Edison gets laughed at again. :)
Ain't your guys over reacting quite a bit . .. Like just because apple doesn't do what the rest of the market does at that level . .. everybody goes on b$%^hing. Look @ what happened to the iPod Mini .. . How many people hated it ... cursed it ... and look where it is now. Sure, go get a post-it note, shuffle your songs and go jog with the iPod . . I don't think the drive in the iPod will be spinning when you access the 240 songs... No damage done .. I think NOT :P
The PC Wienies are at it again cause they got no cool toys to play with. But boy are they quick with the quips!
how much does the best iriver 1gb flash player costs?
get this instead

hahahaha. that's pretty good. nice one.
Yah, congrats to Apple for comming up with a product that slid its way into a trend (although I'm sick of hearing about iPods and their proprietary 'features' and wish a player that supports OGG Vorbis would be all the rage)... but really, sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken. Just because you attach your trendy label to something, that doesnt make it instant gold.... What a stupid gadget the shuffle is! LOL
I have a phone with an SD slot. It also has an MP3 player application on the phone. I went and bought a 1Gb SD card and loaded up about 200 MP3's on it. If I want to have a screen, I just flip open the phone and navigate to the song I want to play. If I don't want to have a screen, I just use the external controls on my phone to navigate my music selection. Oh, and another thing, the MP3 application also supports "Shuffle". Now, why would I want this new iPod?
Here's my favorite quote:
"While S40, V50 and XC90 owners can use a dashboard mounted FM transmitter"
A press release about FM transmitter support! The brilliant minds at Volvo must have really been thinking ahead when they added an FM radio to their cars in order to support connecting to the iPod. What an advancement.
People seem not to have noticed the Shuffle is CHEAPER than the competition, not more expensive. I just checked Amazon and found a whole slew of 256MB players around $80-100, and 512MB players at $130-150. And the iPod Shuffle is 512MB for $99 and 1GB for $150. And as usual, it's simple, and it works. Something that seems elusive for the competition...
LOLLLLLLLL!!!!
I didn't even get it yesterday!!
LOL; very clever guys! That's too funny!!!!
On another note; I want an IPOD shuffle. It's a cool looking dip o stix (the ones that come with fun dip)
i'm going to buy an ipod just so i can make this conversion! :D
Now that's funny!!
I got to hand it to you. I'll be damned.
#20:
That Creative player doesn't have a built-in USB connector, which is a major portability issue for me. It's nice otherwise, however.
Regarding #25 (Joshua Ochs)....
Actually, Creative's N200 1Gb can be had for $165 including shipping from buy.com. It has a screen, comes in multiple colors (some people seem to like that, heh) and doesn't require iTunes (which I hate). And there are a lot of 512mb players for under $100. Heck you can get a Sandisk 1gb mp3 player with screen for about $100 after rebate (it shuffles, too).
You also have to keep in mind that they all have something the Shuffle doesn't... a screen. So you can see what's playing. What if you hear a song from your large music collection and like it, but can't remember what it is? The iPod Shuffle sure won't tell ya!
The big advantage of the regular iPod is its well-designed and thought out interface. The iPod Shuffle doesn't have it. It does have a well thought out button placement. But that's it.
But Creative's flash drives are ugly. Out of the twelve or so that they offer, they all look the same and they're all ugly.
But I don't like this Apple Shuffle either. Very attractive, though, with a very simple interface. But without any display whatsoever, it's stupid to me. Will people who buy it only want to shuffle play their songs and that's it? You aren't going to navigate easily through 100-200+ songs to locate a specific song you want to hear, with no display. I love the product concept, I just wish it had a small OLED display of some sort - but without one, I have no interest in it.
But because Apple knows how to market products, this Shuffle will get a lot of buzz which will make a lot of people feel like they have to go out and buy one to be "cool" and part of the "in" crowd, even if they don't particularly want one. The masses often times respond to good marketing in this way - buying something they don't even want just so they can look cool to others and keep up with the Joneses. This product will be more about popularity than simply a great design.
HAHAHAHHA
Omg some of you Apple fanboys are hilariously retarded. It's funny to see you gimps squeal in defense of yer company despite releasing a POS product.
OH yeah and 1 more thing, It seems Apple is losing it. Releasing the useless overprices iPod Photo which serves no real new purpose when all Digicams usually have LCD's nowadays anyway. The incredibly overpriced iPod Mini (Which I own but I got for free so I don't really mind using it). And Now a Subpar flash player... I think they ate one too many of thier own ipods.
I think it's hilarious that Apple is selling this Shuffle player now. I've avoided the iPod because I thought to myself "why the hell do I need to take 5000 songs with me where ever I go? Why the hell would I want to spend $500 bucks to do so?" Now Apple is selling something far more practical, yet flawed? Wuppy!!! Lets all do a dance and kiss Steves ass and thank him for ripping us off with the iPod. Get a life!
iPod shuffle is cheaper than just about every USB flash MP3 player. For the same price as a 512MB iPod shuffle, you generally get 256MB or sometimes less. If you think it's a ripoff, go price some other flash MP3 players - hell, go price non-MP3 flash drives at those capacities.
Re: the screen - how shocked can you really be when a song you weren't expecting comes on? It's music from your Library/playlists. If you don't like it, hit Next, remove it from the iTunes playlist you used to sync iPod shuffle, or choose a different playlist. Simple, practical solutions to something that is being blown out of proportion as a "real serious problem". What's with making a big thing about it?
This happens all the time with Apple products - they do something unusual, people don't get it, but eventually it becomes a non-issue. Peolple a big deal out of the distinct lack of buttons on the original iPod, cos anything similar had, like, 10 buttons all over it. They said that it must be missing features, or would be terribly hard to operate or remember how to get it to do things.
I give it 8 weeks. By then, people will have actually gotten their hands on it and operated it, rather than broad-jumping to conclusions without actually experiencing it.
I do think that people get too sucked into the marketing, which of course, they do, otherwise companies wouldn't bother. And I still believe that many people (not all of course) will buy it simply because of popularity issues. I say this because there isn't anything revolutionary about the Shuffle. It looks really nice, but it's nothing special.
That said, I will say that despite my comments, the Shuffle is starting to grow on me more. I guess you could say that my attitude toward it is beginning to soften more due to the fact that I can see how it would be great for someone working out in a gym or jogging or bicycling, etc., where someone's attentions would be elsewhere while they were listening to their music, where a display wouldn't be utilized.
But even so, I still wish it had a small OLED monochrome screen of some sort. Just something, because for me personally, I would also like to be able to choose a specific song as well - not just listen to whatever came up. It's not about being surprised at what I'm hearing, it's about control. This product places too much control ultimately in the hands of the device rather in my hands. For me, I don't like that. I'd like to use it as a personal player that I would navigate through during times when my attention was not on something else - like for example, during times where I'm riding on the subway. During these times, it would be nice to have a display that I could look down at to help me navigate through my songs more easily to the ones I wanted to listen to at that very moment.
Having to press buttons over and over again while keeping count in your head to navigate through your songs to a particular one would just be ridiculous. A small display would make this product even better.
If Apple chose to add a small display, who would complain about that? It would be a welcome addition to its elegant design.
I also think that Apple should have released it in many different colors. That would have garnered the product even more attention.
Maybe www.colorwarepc.com will offer it in all of their colors.
ummm..
1. post-it?
check!
2. sticky?
check!
3. i-pod...
ummm - someone could help me with a minor detail here?
b2t:
i like the basic concept of the shuffle:
its smaller, ligther, cheaper, you get less mp3s on it, so you will use it for everydays background "noise" and dont need a display.
only problem:
it isn't really smaller than some of it is competioners (to be specific: it is longer than my thomson lyra and it is the length, not 1 or 2mm thickness more or less, that i feel when i try to sit down with this baby in my in the front pocket of my jeans), the other ones are so light, that even less isnt necessary, it is only cheaper if you keep its capacity in mind - which is far too much for its basic concept, so in the end it is more expensive than the players one would use instead of it.
plus these players would have a display (although u really don't need it, cause they usually need more time to read the mp3tags than to start the song so you can recognize it by sound) and -most important for me:
the would come with a battery you can buy everywhere.
and the revolutionary simple interface..
well - its round.
but else? of course you need less buttons, if you don't have any options..
oh, and the few buttons are nicely aranged?
whow, NICE.
only i usually keep my player in my pocket, so it is most important for me, to operate it by touch - preferably through the fabric of my jeans...
in short:
the shuffle is a complete mess.
for 2/3 of price and length, 1/2 of cappacity and the possibility to operate it with a standard aaa cell and to fill it with standard software (a.g. explorer), it would have been perfect.
this way its crap.
dude u r retarded. ur complaining about the shuffle having too much capacity!!!??? U don't have to fill it to capacity, u can put as little music as u want on it. Then you say you should be able to fill it with aaa batteries!!!??? You don't have to fill it with batteries at all: NEWSFLASH:: IT HAS A BUILT IN RECHARGEABLE BATTERY. If you want to put batteries cause you're on the road you can buy a battery adapter in which you can put ordinary batteries and you can buy a power adapter. And the last one i'm not evens ure it deserves a reply. YOU CAN DUMMY!!!!!
and for the users who dont have a ipod????????
i just saved YOU 400 bucks
I think this has a definite market. It is either a slightly large USB flash drive with music capabilities, or a very small music player.
Yeah, a lot of this is marketing. I think the competitors that are crying fowl should actually get people that know how to market a product. "Build it and they will come" just doesn't work.
Apple ads get to the mass media on a fairly regular basis. I don't remember a single TV ad for a Creative or any other brand player. The only ad I've seen is a billboard for the Zen micro. The noted Muvo slim is $100 to $120 for 256MB capacity, about $20 more for 512MB, and is twice as wide. BTW: Whoever said Muvo slim doesn't have a USB2 port is wrong, there is a miniUSB connector on the left edge right next to the headphone jack, but it requires having that cable along if you want to transfer files to someone's computer.
