Cashing in with podcasting gear
Podcasting is now officially the new blogging which is officially the new black, so it's no shock that someone is
already cashing in with a line of "podcasting gear". PodcastGear.com is basically selling the same pro audio recording
gear, mics, and mixing software you could get before, just bundled together. The Pro Interview Package will only set
you back $1,695, too.
[Thanks, Nathan]

Wouldn't that be 'the new white' as in iPod?
Anyway $1,695 for a mic and a recorder that will record in glorious stereo or whatever - amazing when the end user, i.e. podcast listeners probably won't care if the cast is in mono mp3. For that money you could buy a decent $100 digital mic and I'm sure there is a hack that lets you record on your iPod. Use the other $1,595 for a Mac Mini and a load of iPod Shuffles for your mates so they can listen to your podcasting ramblings and other associated noises you may be inclined to make.
This is terrible... people are going to see this $1,600 equiptment and think that podcasting is an unattainable goal. I think someone should just sell software and a decent mic for a reasonable price so that amatuers who arent willing to drop $1,600 on a product can get in on the podcasting. For pros this might be good but if your new to podcasting this might completely turn you off.
I'm sure a lot of people are getting by just fine with the $10 mic's that come with their computers and sound cards.
Samson makes a USB mic that is perfect for podacasting, it's called the C01U. Studio sound and direct USB for less than $100.
