The iced-out scrolling LED belt buckle

The winner of our Engadget in Public contest (Ray D.) had the impossibly-classic analog version, but who are we to stop progress? 256 characters, 6 messages, 9 speeds, 9 brightness levels… it's on now, yo. Side-by-side with the search engine belt buckle; bits and bling, 2getha 4eva.

I've seen them in NYC's Chinatown for years...asking price was $12, but I'm sure anyone can bargain it down to $8.

(I recently saw one right up broadway, past canal st. in that little flea market area, if anyone knows where that is) It was black and red LED's.

You can grab one on Canall Street in NYC for about 25 - 35 dollars. blue yellow and red if you want


oh and you can actually have 3 messages that are 512 characters long, now if only i could hook this back up to my powerbook to type messages...

I've never bought a custom belt buckle before, and I have no idea how to put this thing on an existing belt. According to the Web site where I bought it, it's supposed to be "compatiable" with any belt, but there are no instructions on how to put the thing on. Does anyone know?

You program the text into it by pressing 3 tiny buttons on the back, they are hard to press and you have to scroll threw the alphabet, numbers and some characters to get around. Its kind of uncomfortable but besides that i am so impressed, i just got mine yesterday.. have yet to wear it but hoping for some looks! anyone got any good ideas on what to write on the thing??
