Card format du jour, the M1/4-Card

generic SD

Are you as tired of the memory card format du jour as we, monsieur? No? Well, by all means check out the M¼-Card then (the M stands for… micro, no way!), the new format being laid down by a consortium of Taiwanese tech firms. Their goal? Produce a card format that's not only compatible with MMC/SD circuitry, but also uses 25-33% less power, and offers speed doubling that of USB 2.0. Oh, and for less money than SD, too. Likelihood of all that being the case: ehh, kind of sketchy. But we'll keep an eye out since the only way you're going to stand a chance at introducing a new card format anymore is by making it compatible with SD, CompactFlash, or, ahem, MemoryStick, or by being the SD Association, the CF Association, or Sony.
