Is Samsung as first in firsts as they say they are?

Samsung motion recognition phone

We know Samsung has been on this alpha dog kick lately, announcing tons and tons of "mine is bigger than yours" products like the world's first five megapixel cameraphone or largest plasma TV, but they've been getting a little push back from archrivals like LG and Pantech who are doing their damnedest to dispute some of those claims. For example, last week Samsung introduced what they said was world's first motion-recognition cellphone, but Pantech says they actually came out with a handset with similar technology last year. And a Korean company called Personal Telecom says that they actually rolled out a portable terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting receiver six months before Samsung unveiled what they claimed was the world's first portable DMB receiver. Samsung, we know you're feeling the heat, but you know what? At the end of the day it's not being first that's most important, it's being best. And that's about as hackneyed as we like to get around here.
