Gametech portable Pocket Famicom (NES)
Available for just eighty bucks, you can relive your '80s videogame
nostalgia with the Gametech Pocket Famicom (it can play NES games with an adapter), which surpisingly does not look
like a lame third-party attempt at a handheld, though we're not quite sure of the legality of being able to play
Famicom games seeing as how this isn't produced by Nintendo. It comes with an video cable to connect to your TV, a
headphone jack, and runs on 3 AA batteries. We're now waiting for a day when folks produce a portable Sega Master
System.

Or just get a smartphone and a load of emulators... Probably more legal than this thing.

Portable Sega Master System? Ever heard of the Gamegear?
ben @ Dec 19th 2005 1:47AM
again...and the sega nomad played genesis games

Although technically similar, the Sega Game Gear does not play Master System games.
Noah @ Dec 19th 2005 1:47AM
Actually, I'm pretty sure there was a adapter for Game Gear called the "Master Gear" that allowed you to play master system games on the Game Gear.
Rob @ Dec 19th 2005 1:47AM
The Game Gear was indeed a portable Master System. You could play the Sega Master System games with an adapter, called the "Gear Master".
Marcos Kirsch @ Dec 19th 2005 1:47AM
Yup, you could play SMS games on the Game Gear. I used to do it and it worked very very well.

Am I the only one that thinks the last sentence sounds sarcastic?

I even still have a working "Master Gear".
It does work, SMS games look almost the same as the game gear titles. Speedball still rocks.

But will this thing let me play Tecmo Super Bowl 2K4?

I'm now waiting for a day when folks produce a portable Sega Genesis aka Mega Drive. Oh, wait ...

btw, keeping on-topic, I'm sure this portable Famicom is perfectly legal, as are all the other Famicom clones on the market (just search Ebay for "Famicom system" - 99% of the results will be clones). The system was completely reverse-engineered a while back, which is probably part of why Nintendo finally discontinued the official model despite the fact that the market is still there.
Almost all of the ten-in-one or 30-in-one classic game consoles we have here in this country (like the Atari joystick, the Activision joystick, etc.) are actually running emulated on Famicom hardware. These things are totally legal and there's not a thing Nintendo can do about it.

This is tempting, so very tempting.

Just to throw in my 2cents; I own a game gear with the master system adapter. It works great. Not to mention the TV tuner. Game Gear rules.
