Congress wants to investigate IBM/Lenovo deal

IBM ThinkPad X40

Since members of Congress are involved it's hard to tell how much of this is genuine and how much of this is just the usual political bluster, but the chairmen of three powerful House committees have asked the Treasury Secretary to give them a briefing on Lenovo's acquisition of IBM's PC business and to withhold government approval for the purchase in order to give them a chance to review everything. They want to make sure that the sale has no "adverse national security ramifications" and are concerned that Lenovo's purchase means that they'll be gaining access to sensitive technology that requires a US government license to be sold overseas. Oh, and they're also not happy that the Chinese government subsidizes Lenovo, either, they're worried that they'll prove to be unfair competition for domestic PC manufacturers.
