Slap that Mac mini to the back of that HDTV
Any weird hack solely devised and executed only using zip ties (which are on the same par as duct tape, if you were wondering) is fully okay with us. Especially when it's something as ridiculous as using them to mount a Mac mini to the back of a plasma. Then again, if we had our HDTVs hanging off the ceiling, we probably wouldn't want to have a Mac mini lying around on the ground below, umbilically tethered to the display.

Guess they never hear of indutrial strength velcro that would have allowed the same thing with out tearing the mini apart.

I was wondering how long it would be before people used the mini for a DIY imac of giant proportions!!

This is garbage! The TV is hung from the cieling using green stakes you use for putting signs in the ground.
This person obviously isn't a true mac fan if they're willing to remove the well designed case and slap it to the back of some generic brand plasma using zip ties. I own a mac mini and I couldn't of too many things that would be more distasteful and disgusting

"Then again, if we had our HDTVs hanging off the ceiling, we probably wouldnt want to have a Mac mini lying around on the ground below, umbilically tethered to the display."
Yeah, because this obviously looks so much better.
From the front it's probably ok, but I'm one of those guys that goes nuts just *knowing* I have something this ugly hanging back there. I think most people who really care about aesthetics are the same way... which really defeats the whole purpose of this.
If you care about how something looks, just mount the Mac Mini normally and get some cable ties. I'd much rather actually display the Mac Mini than do this - it's a nice looking machine.

Wow, that may be the most Mac-elitist comment I've seen. And just because you wouldn't perform a particular hack, it's "distasteful and disgusting"? If it allows the guy who did it is happy with it and it allows him to get what he wants out of the machine, what difference should it make to anyone else?

I fully intend to mount a Mac mini behind my plasma TV but I think I can do a neater job than this..! Besides, how does he use the CD/DVD drive with it mounted that way around..? Mine is going to be placed low enough that you will be able to get to the slot drive, using like gorkon said, industrial velcro.

I have viewed this picture and read your comments now it's my turn.
From the looks of it as all you mac lovers know the mini comes with only 256k memory so the case being removed for the sole purpose of hanging is in fact not the only reason i see 512 has been added to this mini.
The use of tie wraps and lawn stakes are ingenious not only do they do the job but have you ever priced out the cost of a plasma ceiling mount? Lastly maybe form fits function.
Ryan Walters @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
*Not* smart; you create a heat source on the back of a plasma TV and you won't have a plasma TV for very long. Also, what is the point?
Casual Observer @ Dec 19th 2005 1:04AM
It's called a hack you Mac puss-bags.
Biggest buch of whiners I've ever seen.
Break 'em out of that sterile white world and they go all weepy on ya.
