The Alcohol WithOut Liquid machine comes home
Were you into the idea of using an inhaler to suck down a vaporized mixture of alcohol and pressurized oxygen, but not down with the idea doing it in public and looking like a complete tool? Alcohol WithOut Liquid, the company behind those AWOL liquid-free alcohol vapor machines that are already the subject of Congressional legislation, is feeling you, because they're coming out with a cheaper portable version that'll let you kick back with "The Ultimate Party Toy" (how'd they know our nickname?!) in the privacy of your own home. They claim that 20 minutes on the AWOL will result in some hangover-free drunkenness, and we're getting less and less afraid of spending the $299 it would take to find this out first-hand.

This will eventually become illegal because our Goverment said so.

Please government, please protect me from myself.

All they are doing is slaping their stickers all over a product already used for medical purposes. I have seen the machine they are using used for home asthma treatment.
nial @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
Yea, it's called a nebulizer. It's basically a specialized vaporizer. The reason the government isn't digging this is obviously the liquor lobby. Similar reasons why pot is illegal.

Ultimately I predict laws will be passed where, similar to bongs, you can't explicitly say that this product is to be used for the inhalation of alcohol. Maybe they'll even go so far as ban the use of words like "party" and "recreational" on the packaging too.

FYI, the "hangover free" claim is dubious at best. http://www.slate.com/id/2106393

How does a thing like this work? Do you pour vodka into it, witch it then vapourizes, or dou you use something special?
Brucee10 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
With a quick conversion you can use that nebulizer for your illegal smoking purposes as well. Slap on a slot machine and you have all your vices in one machine, convergance baby.

please government, protect the food/alcohol companies from losing money.
Walter E. Wallis @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
If they mix with pure oxygen, they have an explosive mixture. Even alcohol and air aerosol might make boom.
Dominic Frascella @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
lets see..... vaporized alcohol mixxed with alcohol.....you have your flamble substance (alcohol) and your O2 to keep it burning strong.... yummmm fire....
Awesom-o @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
I think I'll just stick to smoking crack.
Morgan @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
Hey- I have one of those (same exact model as in the picture) for my son. It's damned loud, though so we got an Omron MicroAir "ultrasonic" nebulizer that's also portable- powered by 2x AA. It also comes in shiny white to go with your iPod. http://www.mortonmedical.co.uk/Omron_MicroAIR_U22_nebuliser.htm
Briresp @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
The nebulizer doesn't make oxygen. It's just a medical grade compressor. It's standard room air(20.9% 02). It's used to turn a liquid into an aerosol for inhalation. I'm a Respiratory Therapist and I work with this equipment all the time.

On the AWOL page they link to a bill by the NY Assembly which suposedly says the AWOL is legal. But I found it very strange that they named the product in the bill, so I looked on the NYA site for the bill number A11833, as shown in the document. And with no big surprise this bill does not exist. I find these claims dubious as best.

for a minute there i thought that said USB...

This is ripoff artistry to a high degree. You can find their "home machine" (a medication nebulizer, just like Morgan mentioned above) online for $65. If you're feeling ambitious, you can put together their $2595 "commercial unit" for less than half that. Check it out here:

The "Single User Awol Machine" is technically illegal anyway, no new laws are needed.
U.S. Federal law prohibits sale and/or distribution of nebulizer equipment without a doctor's prescription/written order.
Well, as some have already said, the "Single User Awol Machine" is just a home nebulizer unit that they are selling with their AWOL sticker on it. Someone mentioned that they have an Omron model that looks like it. I'm guessing that the Omron and the AWOL are actually Devilbiss units. I've used a Devilbiss Pulmomate and it looks just like it.(www.devilbiss.com)
Devilbiss is a company that is an OEM of many air compressor devices. They make their air industrial compressors, paint guns, and compressor medical equipment which they also produce for other companies - Sears for example.
tina nelson @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
don't the home nebulizers only hold about 8cc? how long would it take to inhale a shot thru one of the home neb machines?
