A Star Wars iPod
You know it wouldn't be a new Star Wars movie without massive merchandise tie-ins, and to cash in on
Episode III Skittles (yeah, that Skittles) is sponsoring a "Hunt for Grievous" online game where they're
giving away a hundred "Star Wars-themed iPods". There are no pics, no details about what model iPod they're giving
away, or how exactly these'll be Star Wars-themed, but there's got to be at least one mega fanboy who is freaking out
right now.
[Thanks, Scott]

Throwing the BS flag up on this one. The 2nd level prize of "iTunes", which is free from apple.com, doesn't seem like much of a prize.

Hmm. I suppose it could mean iTunes "downloads", like a free song. Maybe I rushed into that comment...

To the six other people on the planet who don't get Star Wars anymore, and who think this entire franchise should have been put to bed long ago, I offer this:
It'll all be over soon, given the fact that Sir Lucas has decided to stop at six "films". We should all be thankful for at least that.

They could mean, that, but then it seems to me they would say it. iTunes being a registered trademark for Apple, you can't just use it on promotional material without their consent. So, even if the designer and agency responsible for creating this insert have been living in caves for the past couple of years and had no idea what iTunes and iTMS were, I am pretty sure Apple would mandate the correct usage of their very precious trademark/copyright ( I am always getting the two confused, forgive me). If the prize were iTMS downloads, I think Apple would want it put just like that: "iTunes Music Store Song Downloads" or something. There is just too much riding on the brand for them to allow someone to treat it so casually. I think your initial BS meter is right on.

you're probably thinking too hard - think HP tattoo with official SW3 artwork - it could be as simple as that with the soundtrack loaded on it.

If you check http://www.skittles.com/ you will find that a contest will start on april 2nd, the day that Episode III novel and lot of EpIII related stuff is revealed. Not a confirmation at all, but maybe...

"...but theres got to be at least one mega fanboy who is freaking out right now."
No, I'm not. Yet.
After I pick up my action figures at midnight, April 2, then I'll say if I'm freaking out or not.
As an Apple geek since I was 12 or so, and as a Star Wars geek since I was four (yes, I was four in 1977... do the math if you're curious), I know damn well I'm buying all the bags of Skittles in the metropolitan Detroit area come April 2.
Glad I like them. It would really suck if it were some sort of white chocolate thing or something...

I just want an ipod, I'd probably cover up whatever made it special edition cause I don't want to endorse the new starwars movies.
Jerald Bernard @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
My thoughts are it could be an iPod Photo with lots of stills from the movie (or movies)
Tim @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
Maybe George's signature, along with some of the actors' engraved on the back??
Will @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
maybe an engraved 'iPology' from George for episode II
Steve @ Dec 19th 2005 12:10AM
It looks real to me. Check out skittles.com. Text and images of a "star wars engraved iPod with iSkin". Whatever that means. Not a great picture, but its there.

Honestly, this may sound very obscure, but I just won one of these ipods and know its a huge collectable, but dont like star wars, and am willing to sell it in order to buy a regular ipod and keep the extra cash. My email is brfromal@ncsu.edu so, email me if you're interested
