Put a stop to those truck-driving terrorists

Truck Stopping Technology

We don't recall having heard of a rash of terrorist truck hijackings, but surely the homeland will be more secure now that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has unleashed a fourth generation of its Truck Stopping Technology. Law enforcement officials can remotely control commandeered trucks via a small device mounted in the vehicle. Officers use a handheld controller to deploy the truck's brakes and bring it to a complete stop — get this — "before attacking a nuclear plant" or other sensitive facilities. We heartily agree that anyone insane enough to try ramming their truck into a nuclear plant ought to be stopped, but are they really going to enact legislation to outfit all commercial transportation vehicles with this $800 device? Wouldn't anyone planning to drive their truck into a nuclear reactor just figure out way to disable this first?
