U.S., Canada to develop Blackberry security

BlackBerry 7250

American and Canadian government officials plan to develop enhanced security technology for Blackberry devices, according to reports. The goal is to make them secure enough to be used by military and government officials without fear of data falling into the wrong hands. Most corporate users of Blackberrys are already safer than users of, say, the T-Mobile Sidekick (insert obligatory Paris Hilton reference here), which stores data on publicly accessible websites; Blackberrys typically work with Exchange servers or other private data networks. Of course, if your Blackberry falls into the wrong hands, it's only as safe as your password, so the government project had better include some education on good password practices (hint: don't use your dog's name).
