Add a 3.5-inch external hard drive to your Mac mini

One of the biggest complaints about the Mac mini, especially for power users, is that dang 5400 rpm notebook drive in the thing. It's not fast enough, and it's certainly not big enough. Many are just adding external FireWire drives to their minis, and some are going the route of upgrading to a larger 7200 rpm internal drive. But Arthur Whalem's got a different idea: hook up a regular 3.5-inch IDE drive to your mini's innards by using a $23 IDE adapter internally, and housing the drive externally. It does get you better performance and better storage at a nicer price than the internal notebook upgrades, but damn… it just doesn't add too much in the way of aesthetics, unfortunately.
