Samsung's V740--wonder who they're biting?
Ah, the time honored formula—if you can't beat 'em, knock 'em off, (and hard, if possible). Afterall, it seems to be working alright for all the iPod and PSP knockoffs of the world, so why not let our friends over at Samsung take a swipe at a certain popular cellphone with their new V740? Sure, it spares nearly no line in keeping it real, but we're not about to go on record as saying we wouldn't carry one—especially if it was a smartphone.

I'd get it because I hate moto's user interface and I hate all motorolas even if they have sleek design. sooo...in ssaying that, tip of the cap to you Samsung!
just because its skinny, doesnt mean its an exact rip off. in fact it looks nothing like the razr, Except for the fact that it is slim. in the near future all clamshells will probably be some version of slim. so why call it a knock off?... especialy if it ends up trumping the razr in features.
So do you have anything interesting to tell us? We're not interetested in your biased personal opinion.
Aren't all personal opinions biased?
how else would you design a thin clamshell?
now THIS is what copying looks like: http://www.autoblog.com/entry/1234000503040395/
just looks like a thin phone to me. The resemblemce is not that strong at all, i don't think, outside of the placement of the camera.
Nice link on the pic, by the way

I think it's called "competition."
The next big question is - can they copy the price? Moto managed to get more than $500 out of the free-phone indoctrinated American public; I doubt Samsung will be able to do the same.
The V740 actually has a functional exterior (3 buttons on the front face) and when it opens up, it doesn't have that clunky bottom part that the RAZR has.
I'd rather have a Samsung than a Moto but I haven't remviewed the technical specs yet. I wonder how much smaller they could make it if they got rid of the useless camera? I wonder what percentage of americans actually use the cameras beyond the first week.
Now the big question - what are they doing about making a good pda phone that fits in your wallet? I would be happy with either OS6 or PPC 2005
All Sumsung has to do to grab some marketshare is come out with a version running on CDMA. The Moto only runs on GSM, leaving several million Sprint and 43 million Verizon Wireless users with no way to show off. Decent feature list, not even better than Moto, and a $300 price guarentees them marketshare. I'm looking for 3 phones and a Blackberry/HP 6500hw right now, and with no decent CDMA phones out there, I may have to jump GSM myself...
To Charles Hoard,
This Samsung IS a CDMA phone. Notice the "C" in SCH-V740? If its a GSM phone, the model designation would be SGH-V740.
Does it come in black?
Thanks for the update ConceptVBS!
Now to get the geezers at Verizon to add it at a decent price point, and I am set. I'll probably have to still do my HP 6500hw on Cingular's Edge network. rats....
Since when is making a thin phone copying the competition?
That's kind of stretching it thin...pun intended.
Anyway, that's the way competition works...if one company comes up with a good idea, expect to see others follow suit.
It's great if this results in lower prices for such thin phones...Moto has been ripping people off with their pricing...
saw the razor for the first time in person today. i was dissapointed it looks pretty lame
did they really have to name it with a V in the beginning though?
nice photo shame there was SFA in the way of facts like the phones specs etc...
I think that - from the Samsung point of view, this is a pretty big leep away from Samsung's other phones! But if it has the right User Interface, this could be a succes from Samsung. But, does it have Video Editing ? and the camera, how many (mega)pixels is it working with ?
The Samsumg is bloody ugly !
WHEN IS IT COMING TO THE PUBLIC? Way better than the moto. with the new evdo speeds, this phone will be the new mini television right on your phone.
