Pantopic: ESP for your cellphone?

Pantopic

So far the hype surrounding the MoSoSo (mobile social software) space has been great, but the delivery — forgive us — only SoSo. Still, it seems like somebody is bound to get it right one of these days, or at least closer, and Ian Curry's Pantomic system sounds like how we wish it would work. The Pantopic physical network browser runs on phones with both JM2E and Bluetooth (Nokia 6600, e.g.) and gives the user access to stored profiles, RSS feeds, blogs, images and sounds from other close-by users in real-time. This could be used to do things like make new connections based on common interests, or figure out where your friends are hanging out so you can join them. Sounds great — but still the catch-22 problem yet remains that, until a critical mass of people are actually signed on to the network, the results you're gonna get back from your queries just won't be all that action-packed.
