Nintendo DS FlashMe firmware patch

This hacked version of the DS
firmware will upgrade the BIOS on your unit so you can boot your homebrew code from a GBA cartridge without a
PassMe in the DS slot. It's now available for download
without any registration required. FlashMe is activated by keystroke combination SELECT+START+A+B at startup, otherwise
the original firmware will load. The patch is removable by running the update program again but, you know, fair warning
— as with these things if you've screwed your DS it's not like you can run crying to customer support. We're just
sayin'.

Hopefully this should make it easier to develop homebrew software for it.

Unless it's changed since they took the registration off, you don't have to hold buttons to boot DS homebrew from the GBA port, it does it automatically. You do have to hold Select if you want to override that feature.
Yeah, cause homebrew PSP software is gonna rock...

Nobody gives a damn about homebrew software.
This is only interesting from a piracy standpoint.
Be honest dammit.

I think you are half right.
It will cause a lot of piracy, but it will allow developers that can't afford official dev kits to be able to program on the hardware.
I am currently learning C/C++ and would love to program for the GBA & DS.

Mike is both right and wrong. Homebrew software is great, people do give a damn about it, especially homebrew emulation software. The problem is that most people don't own the roms legally.

What is not so clear to me is why you need a passme card to run the flash utility...
if you have a passme card, you don't really need to fiddle with your DS, do you?
unless of course the readme file is obsolete and you just have to flash a gba cart with the firmware updater and start it
