Orlando kills free downtown WiFi

Downtown Orlando

Not like we were planning on visiting anytime soon or anything, but we are so not digging this: the city of Orlando has decided to shut down the free WiFi network they had installed downtown. Hardly anyone was actually using it (they were getting about 27 users a day, which was far fewer than they'd expected), and apparently it was getting tougher and tougher for them to justify spending $1,800 a month it cost to maintain the network for a service that so few people were taking advantage of. Might turn out to only be a temporary disruption, as they're already talking to several ISPs who say they might be interested in taking over the network. They'd be required to keep the free WiFi access while charging for "premium features" like faster connection speeds or Voice over WiFi service.
