Mossberg takes on the Samsung i730

i730

It's been a full eight months since we first spotted this bad boy at a press event last year, but today Verizon finally started selling Samsung's new i730 Pocket PC Phone, at least to business customers. Mr. Mossberg scored the first "official" review, and he likes the phone, but mainly because it's not much bigger than the Treo 650, has WiFi, and can connect up to Verizon's high-speed EV-DO network. Otherwise he's down on its cruddy battery life and how it's difficult to use the i730 one-handed. We figured he'd be hating on its keyboard, too, since that was the one thing we really disliked about the phone during the few times we've been able to play with it, but he says he found that typing on the i730 to be as fast as on his Treo, which makes us think that maybe Samsung improved the keyboard for the final production version. At least we certainly hope so.
