The USB MP3 Capsule
It's scarcely the iPod shuffle knock-off that is/was
Luxpro's infamous Super
Shuffle, but whoever makes the USB MP3 Capsule makes no bones about their inspiration—if the hastily produced fake
silhouette ad (pictured below) doesn't spell things out for ya, they also come right out and say in the product
description that it's "Similar to iPod Shuffle." At 39 bucks it does have a certain, uh, price advantage over the
shuffle, but that's mainly because there's no internal memory. If you want to actually listen use the USB MP3 Capsule
to listen to music you have to pop in a spare SD or MMC memory card.

WTH is up with white? Damn Apple and their ability to turn the color white into something it never was before and trick other companies into thinking they can pull and iPod and outsell everyone!
t3h_bob @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
You can buy a 1 gb sd card on the site for $64, so its still $45 bucks cheaper than an ipod shuffle 1gb.
Drewcool @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
They stole the PearPC logo!
adil @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM

First glance: "look, an Apple ad."
Second Glance: "Is that an iPod ad for porn stars? What a horrible photo/illustration."
Third Glance: "Must be a Pear PC - iPod partnership of some sort."

I smell inovation! hahaha lolerz...
Actually... I smell waffles...strange!
If they do really use that ad, they should try using a name for the product that isn't something, well, genaric.
Jeremy @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Call it something fruity, like "pear"
treocast @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Aiptek has had this on the market for quite some time now... http://www.aiptek.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=AX4&Category_Code=MP3
I bought one back in January to use as a pocket SD reader, but it works very well as an MP3 player... no shuffle mode though.

Is it just me...or does this look like a hoax to anyone???
Christopher M. @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
I'd actually buy it in a split second if it supported my 2GB SD cards. But just 1GB max for now.
It's the right idea, tho. Swappable and infinite memory, miniature package.
Melker63 @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Nice, but I would prefer this model equipped with 3 buttons on each side + OLED-display. Like the iRiver N10.
Tyme @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
i like the sexual conintations of this ad...

Haha, they stole the sillouette (sp?) from Playboy! Playboy had this thing called iBod where you could download nude pictures for your iPod photo. And check out their logo...

I think this is a joke. A bitten pear instead of an apple? I mean COME ON!
Richard @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
I smell a hoax. That ad is too homemade looking to be real.
But who knows?
I'm calling shenanigans, though.

Is that...is that her boob, or her elbow?

Just bought mine. I had a 512MB SD left over from a cell phone, so I needed a place to put it :) Well, Im curious about the sound quality.. so, here goes.
adil @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
i just ordered the aiptek one, it's the exact same thing, just cheaper (29.99)
i hope the sound uality is good, if so then i got my moneys worth
any idea in what order the songs are be played in? can it see files in different directories?
snac @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
That "advertisement" is made at 72dpi, and if you lighten it a little (or view it on a bright screen) you can see the layer the white headphones are sitting on.
Kudos to the 13 year old who got their art on engadget ;). Or conversely, shame to the man who can't even do a good hoax ;).
Love how the pear resembles a bomb.
Conde @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
i think this mp3 player is way cool. i actually just bought one and its great. i had 2 1gb sd disks and i put all my rock on one and all my rap/hip hop on another. i like how u can do that with this one. its pretty sweet. and if i run out of room ill just get another disk. this mp3 player is way tight
Tsardoz @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Hey guys who bought it or Aiptek (they look the same thing with different badge to me) - what are they like? Sound quality? What order do they play in?
