If there's one thing we've learned from watching from RoboCop 211 times (besides the fact that Peter Weller
was robbed at the Academy Awards that year), is that you really, really do not want to put robots in charge of
arresting people. The Koreans don't seem to mind though.

Begin first person voice:
Hey, look at that thief on our property. Let's sick a robot on him with a net. Excuse me Mr. Thief. Please stand still while this robot comes up to you and shoots this net at you and oh by the way please throw down your knife so you can't cut out of the net until we have some real people come and take you away". What these robots is not a net, smoke, or a loud noised speaker but a super powered array of stun guns that shoot at you and electrocute you until a real security guard comes around and shuts down the robot with a key. Then the real security guard can Rodney king your ass for allowing a freakin robot to take you down. That's what we need. We don't need a Teddy Ruxpin patrolling our streets. Man sometimes those Koreans sure have some stupid ideals.

This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. Looks like i can trip him with one foot. The pavement better be smooth too with those 3 inch wheels. Whoever designed this thing needs to realize he's not living in a comic book world. And whoever funded the project needs to just hand his money over to the people that are soon to take if from the dumb ass anyway.
OddManOut @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
I know we all have very definite ideas about what a combat/security 'droid should be like, and I doubt any of us envision this thing. But maybe this isn't really all that close to a production model, just a proof of concept and a test bed for some of the technologies that will eventually go into the REAL Robot-a-gaurds of the future.
Balace, noise detection/identification, motion tracking, non-lethal weapon deployment, pursuit etc, obviously all still need more development, maybe this is just a baby step...
Or maybe this will ultimately be used as the hall monitor in a rest home (and I'll admit even THAT might tax this thing)...
That said, I'll agree, robot gaurds won't really be worth doing in the field until they're a little more 'T-800' and a little less 'R2D2'...
mags @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
Wow - robot pr0n!!

We've had robot politicians for years.
No weapons of mass destruction? Does not compute. Begin subroutine "spreading democracy".
Surrender or be shocked and awed.
Johnny @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
It's a common misconception that robocop is a robot, while he is in fact a cyborg: a puny human with some cool kick-ass robotic limbs.
And by the way, what did Robocop ever do wrong? He saved the city of Detroit from drug dealers, and corrupt business men at least 3 times!
Tyme @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
It appears peter parker was bit by a robotic spider... thus ROBO Spider-Man was born!!!
Ichigake @ Dec 19th 2005 12:17AM
