Trimersion Head Mounted Display
Ah yes, yet another overpriced attempt at Virtual Reality headgear. 3001 AD's Trimersion Head Mounted Display will
work with first person shooters on the Xbox, Playstation and PC platforms and, if nothing else, is guaranteed to scare
off any potential mates who might happen by during your gameplay. It's supposed to hit retail in quarter four for a
street price of about $500, so start working harder if you gotta get it.
[Thanks, Chris]

To be released just when the xbox 360 is coming out but says nothing about compatibility with it... good marketing
Forgive me a cruel chuckle... Ha! Hahahahahhahhhhaaahhaha! Ker-failure! I remember once my local videogame resale store had a virtual reality headseat for the Sega Genesis. Unfortunately it only worked with the first model, and I had the second. The woman who ran the store was selling it for $0.00. That's right. She knew it was crap and couldn't get rid of it. I wish I picked it up so that it could have joined my Powerglove, Virtual Boy, and other gaming crap collection.
Anyone know a good website that chronicles this VR headset stuff?
320x240, 35", 7ft
According to my javascript FOV calculator this gives a horizontal FOV of about 19.8 degrees. Hurray for the immersion level. I don't understand why they give the equivalent screen size and distance. Got something to do with resolution or focus? Anyway... it's too expensive for these low specs.
you can get HMD 960x240 res. for USD70 at Ebay.

If this is the same one that I tried out at E3 (it appears to be), then the screen was downright HORRIBLE. It was lightweight and the motion tracking seemed very good, but if you can't see whatever the hell you're playing, what's the point?
$500? Golly-gee, I'll have to save-up my allowance for a whole year to afford that! Seriously, I bet you think spending a couple of hundred on a decent steering wheel/pedal setup is too much. *sarcasm* ;-)
Um, the only things that matter (to me): does it implement a head tracker, and what's the minimum resolution? Unless it does a minimum 1024*768, it's useless IMHO.
DarkFader: 320x240? Wow. My graphics card (x850 XT PE) probably can't do that w/o hacking the driver .inf, if at all). CRAPTASTIC!
To #2, I write a whole website about Microvision, Inc. They have a technology that scans beams of light across your eye at very high rates of speed creating virtual images on your vision with no screen.
They recently announced a new architecture with HD resolution and wide field of view with very light weight and no bulky headgear, just regular eyeglasses form factor.
They will own this entire space with their new product when it is unleashed on the market.
It is seriously insane. Check it out at MVIS Blog: http://microvision.blogspot.com
Rock on,
BJ
This thang sounds like a $500 headache to me.
Thanks, but if I want a machine that does nothing but give me grief and headaches I'll stick to cars. They at least have some resale value...
I will momentarily read Mr. Mcwild's linked article, but at first glance THAT thing sounds like a sure fire Seizure machine...
But hey, I could be wrong...
I tried this at E3.... pretty bad. eMagin's 3d Visor was better.
