NewTek TriCaster reviewed

NewTek TriCaster

ExtremeTech has a review of NewTek's TriCaster, a $5,000 box that'll let you produce live TV, something that previously required equipment costing ten times as much. The system is actually a customized Shuttle small-form-factor PC running Windows XP, but it's what's inside the box that makes it special. Namely, NewTek's VT4 video production card and a 250GB hard drive, as well as a customized front plate with six video input ports (three composite, three S-Video), two 1/4-inch microphone jacks, and audio/composite/S-Video outputs. Adding the optional switching keyboard and a monitor will bring the total cost to just under $6,500, but ExtremeTech seems to think it's worth it — they've actually bought one the little black boxes to use for their own video production.
