ROKR or new iPod on September 7 (part II)?
Apparently Apple's set to hold a music-oriented event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco next week, which incidentally jibes precisely well with what we'd previously heard about the possibility of Motorola's launch of the ROKR iTunes phone on the same day, September 7th. The synergy on this seems unusually good—could this finally be the the launch we've been waiting for? Or perhaps we'll just see some new iPods—they're due for an update as well. Guess we'll have to wait until next Wednesday to find out for sure.

The only new ipod you can expect is an ipod mini colour or a shuffle with more memory. But don't expect the ipod G5 becasue it is too early for apple to release it since the "new" ipod colour 20gb has just come recently

Can the video Ipod come out already, I can't wait much longer...

GOD what is up with you guys and Itunes phone? Seriosly, i have a mobile phone that plays MP3's.. That is, Mp3's i export from itunes. Now what's so great about that?

Yeah I agree the Apple speculation in general on this site goes on way too much. I have to admit I am awaiting the iTunes phone, but I don't need a 5 minute update on every new iPod accessory.

#3, I agree. I think its the Apple fanboy in some people. They've been dreaming of some newton/ipod/phone/tablet contraption for years. This ROCKR phone is none of these. Its most likely the same crappo Motorola GUI in a bulky phone (i.e. thicker than the RAZR) with ipod-esque controls mapped to the center directional buttons. Yippie.
Now a gen 5 ipod... THAT i can get behind.

Based on what I've read (phone will be limited to 25 songs or so), who cares? Why even have the scrool wheel? The beauty of iTunes/iPod was the ability to have a very organized way of carrying your entire music library with you - this phone is an extremely poor alternative and a step backward.

iTunes 5.0? iPod Mini Color/Flash based models? The iPod Video? An announcement of a settlement with Apple Records ushering in the Beatles catalog exclusively available online through the iTunes Music Store? Hmmm.

Apple will be releasing a memory upgraded shuffle with a screen before the end of the year.

From the invitation Apple sent out:
"1,000 songs in your pocket changed everything," the invitation reads, referring to the release of the first 5GB iPod nearly four years ago. "Here we go again."
Here we go again... this doesn't sound like a small thing.
So it's either the iTunes phone or a video iPod. I can't see it being anything else. They seem to be hyping this one up really hard.
While I'd love for it to be a video iPod, my money's on the phone...
Apoco-Lips @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
1000 songs in your mouth...?
1000 songs in your ass...?
1000 dollars in the glovebox of a luxury car parked nearby and you need the money for a fix badly...?

IMO, in that picture it loks liek a Creative Micro with a scroll wheel on it... And by the way #1 we could see a new flash based ipod with a screen, that's 4 gb, based on the rumor that samsung offered apple 4 gb flash drives for the same price as the ipod mini 4gb drives. So that's definitely a possibility

1000 game boy micro in your mouth...

I played with the contrast on the spy photo above. The phone in the photo has the same wavey numeric keyboard and layout as the new Motorola PEBL phone.

The SOLAR-POWERED Moscone Center. Sorry. Bit of a fanboy myself.
Brian @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Is it going to have a decent pair of headphones and a 512MB memory card bundled with it like the Sony Ericsson W800i?
Is it going to have a 4GB HD, WiFi, a regular 3.5mm headsocket and support for AAC/MP3/WMA/OGG/RA/DivX/etc like the Nokia N91?
Somehow I don't think this phone is going to be able to compete with the competition. I could be wrong though...
Bob @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Guys, there's no way a G5 iPod is going to happen. The G5 runs way too hot for that little enclosure. I'd say we're stuck with G4 until Apple switches to Intel.
Just kidding.
Since this update is coming at the same time as Motorola's phone release, I'd say it's just the iPod phone. Which could be cool, and is essential to the iPod brand's long-term success, but isn't as interesting as a Video iPod. As far as other updates go, I personally think the iPod Mini won't go color at least until after the Back to School offer ends--September 24, the last day of Macworld Paris.
mikataur @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
If there *is* a video iPod, it'll be interesting how the Stevester introduces it...
Last year they had the U2 music event (at the same venue I think) where the iPod Photo and U2 special edition were announced.
During that event, Jobs commented (negatively) on the push towards video on mobile devices. He played a clip from the movie 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' where Indy's Egyptian friend says, "They're digging in the wrong place!"
The message was: no one wants to take video with them.
So, will Apple now start digging in that place too?!

This probably has a lot to do with there recent memory card purchase. Either the phone will come with a 4gb card or they will intro their 4gb shuffle.
mark @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
Here is SF they've had the talking heads blathering on about how apple is going to release a new itunes phone soon. (kron & ktvu to be specific)
Callum @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
"I can't see it being anything else" - Richard...
heh, you wern't here in 1998, either was Engadget (doh!). Point is - this is Apple remember; 7 button mice, iTunes for Windows, Intel Processors, Water into Wine... maybe not the last one - Uncle Steve's got something to new share I'm sure.
krisis @ Dec 19th 2005 1:05AM
yes, it is going to be new motorola ipod stuff. I know it :)
