iTunes phone to be based on the E680i?
Bits and pieces of information on the now legendary, yet unseen iTunes phone keep coming in — iLounge now has it that while the E790/ ROKR will indeed be an iTunes phone, it's not gonna be the iTunes phone that will make fanboys drop to their knees. The bigger deal iTunes phone will supposedly be based on the Motorola E680i, which runs on Linux, does SD/MMC storage and sports integrated stereo speakers plus support for Bluetooth headphones. Notably, it's also got a touch screen, which could magically turn into ye olde scroll wheel. What's not clear is what the UI is going to be like — we totally wouldn't put it past Apple to drop a bomb and unleash a mobile OS. And frankly, we hope they do.

what about battery life?
if an ipod is up to 12 hours...
a cell with 12 hours battery life, ahahahah.
hmmm kinda makes me think back to the time that apple advertised a job for a handwriting recognision expert ... Would be very cool if apple came out with something like a lifedrive ;)
Man. Is anyone else just un-interested in the iTunes phone? We've been hearing about it for so long (and this isn't a shot against Engadget or anything like that) and it seems to me that when it comes out it's just going to be an mp3 player with an iTunes-like frontend (though while simple and nice, isn't really anything to write home about). I'm generally an Apple fan, but this really doesn't do anything for me. Just seems funny how the iTunes phone seems to be a pretty hot topic everywhere on the tech sites. Am I missing something?
2 Andy, you are right about "hot topic" :) When it will come out people will be totally disappointed by the fact that it's E398 with new firmware and iTunes, nothing to expect really, but the media make a huge deal from this product, but the hot topic actually should be Sony Ericsson W800, not the freaky partnership Moto and Apple. Apple should go their way, but they still prefer Motorola. I'm really pissed off. :D
It might be Dashboard / widget based?
An OS X based scaled down phone OS would be really interesting, but perhaps a little too much for a phone and it'd end up a rich gadget-man's toy instead of a potential block buster. Perhaps a phone GUI based on Dashboard and Widgets would be it.
Dayum, a linux phone with an Apple UI? OK, I'm interested.
