DreamAuthentics Personal Video Arcade machines
Soooo sweet — DreamAuthentics is putting out a Personal Video Arcade machine line geared towards consumers, with a
bunch of units in true old skool arcade cabinet style. They don't just play the classics, but can run a slew of games
from the Xbox and Playstation consoles as well as off-the-shelf PC games. They've got several configurations to choose
from, each coming pre-loaded with twelve classic arcade games, plus you can watch DVDs, listen to music and hook in
your cable as well, although just standing in front of an arcade console to watch videos doesn't seem nearly as
exciting as getting your Asteroids on. As you may imagine, these things aren't cheap, and all will run you into the
several $K region. We're thinking of raising some cash by putting all of our
exergaming equipment up on eBay — screw that
health crap!
[Thanks, Mike]

An awesome combo old arcade plus new xbox

Here's something similar

this is awesome :)
"An awesome combo old arcade plus new xbox"
A better idea is a powerful PC running MAME, which is what most people who have these things put in there.
"several $k" is a ripoff if true, though. Several other companies offer similar cabinets for under $1,000, and probably even a better idea is just to buy an old cabinet and rip the guts out. You can get an old, broken arcade game for under $100 and just salvage the cabinet. Most people do then put in some custom controls that'll work with various types of games - it's a bit more work, but wouldn't you rather save several thousand dollars? (And have a "real" arcade cabinet in the bargain?)
Or you could google "MAME Cabinet plans" and build your own for a few hundred.
I agree, just mod your own. Nothing beats Street Fighter on your own personal arcade. Matter of fact, maybe I should invest in this project now so I'll have something to do. I need to limit my driving as much as possible, for gas prices are getting utterly ridiculous.
Jeff, I'd really like to know where I can get a four-player pedestal cabinet like the one on the left up there for less than a grand.
I could probably build one, but I'd wind up spending more than a grand on tools...
2, look at the site you posted. See those game pads? $250/pair. Its a definite ripoff seeing as they go for $35 at radioshack. Anyway, everyones a ripoff, so it doesnt' matter :P.
Any decent-sized city has an arcade auction every few mos. Mostly operators, but they're open to anyone w/money. Superauctions is one of the co's that does it in the Southeast.
Excellent ref is the old usenet group rec.games.video.arcade.collecting.
This is a crazy costly way to get an arcade cab. I worked in the industry for a few years & I'm always astounded by how much ppl will overpay, & how unwilling they are to learn about these things. (Going prices, maintenance, &c.)
Those dreamauthentic machines are nice, but probably geared more towards rich folks. I'm more a DIY type guy ;)
FWIW BYOAC ( http://www.arcadecontrols.com )is THE resource for learning how to make your MAME arcade cabinet.
Excellent friendly forums ( http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/ ) and project examples galore to learn from.
*shrug* It's where I got all the info to build/convert my MAME arcade cabinet http://ubercade.randomdrivel.com
