Griffin's new mo betta iTrip
The iTrip—if you've got an iPod, you may well have one. If you don't, you kind of wished Griffin made one for whichever MP3 player you do have. Well, the classic still comes in white (and U2 black), but now with an LCD and more powerful broadcasting capabilities, they're claiming clear, better-than-tape audio even in places with a proper radio signal.

Um, no, they make a black iTrip to match the U2 iPod.
Does it require a playlist of stations like the old one? I hope not. They faild to memtion that with the old one.
My old iTrip got busted up. When is this going to be released?
#3 "When is this going to be released?"
If you bothered to follow the link, it appears you can buy it right from the site it takes you to.
Let me guess, Griffin...we're gonna wait for 12+ months for actual delivery like RadioShark, Firewave, SmartDeck, and just about everything else you've announced recently?!?!
Love the products (when they eventually arrive to market), hate the company. A true bunch of shysters.
MrBlank: no playlists any more :) you select stations by rotating the silver button at the right hand side.
fistfight: it's available now on griffin's web site for $39.99 intro price...
Just placed my order :)
(their site was not secure earlier, but now it is...)

it has already been in stores. got mine at local apple store and it is much better than the previous model!
Why not add an AM tuner as well .... if you have to have a kludgy solution may as well add as much functionality as possible..... I don't care much for FM that's why I have an MP3 player ...AM I can catch a sports broadcast, talk radio etc...
I'll believe it when I see it (or in this case hear it). I've got the original iTrip and it's a piece of grade A junk. It cuts out all the time, there are constant popping sounds when it isn't cutting out, the volume is terrible, and the sound quality is terrible.
My tape adapter works infinitely better and cost a lot less.

"they’re claiming clear, better-than-tape audio even in places with a proper radio signal."
And they're lying. The audio is just a sucktastic as before. I bought one at an Apple Store in NC and returned within the hour.
Red, if you want to listen to AM radio, maybe you should buy an AM radio. If you want FM radio, maybe you should buy an FM radio. In fact, several radio models support AM *and* FM.
This, however, is an FM modulator and transmitter, so I fail to see how your comment it at all relevant to the discussion. Thanks for sharing though.
#7 you misunderstand. This doesn't let you listen to FM radio, it let's you play your iPod through any handy FM radio.
@red.... idiot its to BROADCAST your music via FM its not a tuner.
Soz for the flame.. it had to be done.
No 10 ... I KNOW it's a FM transmitter you dimwit .... my point being that add on devices should try to incorporate as much functionality as possible ... heck with all the add ons developed for the iPod you's need a tool belt to carry them all ....
This just makes me think of my original iTrip, which despite the manual's explicit directions on how to make this not happen, would frequently helpfully scream DEEEDLYDEETDEEDLEBEEP! into your ears about every 15th song when you were using it with headphones. (and required the most ridiculous operation in the car.) Never have I killed more people while using another device. Never have I seen something that needed an LCD screen more.
It's about time, this should have been a feature from day one.
Why does this post seem to advertise for Griffin? I wonder if there is a conflict of interest here between the objectivity of your posts and the profitability of your website.
so you know it's an FM transmitter, but how much bigger are you willing to make the thing to incorporate AM and FM receivers as well? The iTrip is pretty tiny, and I'm sure they had too squeeze it even more to incorporate the dial and the LCD. Adding any more functionality isn't feasible at that size, and I think it would convolute this great product.
WOV.. yes! I forgot about this aspect of the original. I ended up tossing all the FM station mp3s and leaving the iTrip set to 87.9, interference be damned!
WOV,
I solved that particular problem by creating a smart playlist called "All Songs" which was set to match all songs where "Album" is not "iTrip". I use that when I want to shuffle all my songs.
If it is indeed as powerful as they say, I may have to once again try another transmitter. As long as I can once again return it if I have to. Damn my expensive car radio/CD player without a Line In jack. Wish it was a tape deck.
Sweet, time to go shopping :D
The iTrip is by far the worst FM transmitter for the iPod. After 6 months of sheer disappointment with the sound quality, I picked up Monster's FM/Charger. Major difference in sound quality. Plus when on shuffle you don't hear the annoying "*BEEP* *blip* *blip* *BLEEP*".
I'll admit the iTrip is more aesthetic, the quality is poo. Who cares about the second gen. I wish I could get my money back for the first gen.
I use the iTrip Mini everyday. Works great for me. I like the multi-station feature as well, which I change when I stay in Japan.
I love how people are using this post to complain about the old iTrip, when the new one solves all the problems they're complaining about. I guess some people just enjoy whining.
