Sony recalls millions of PlayStation 2 adapters
Well, well, looks like Microsoft isn't going to feel so bad about that reputation sullying recall of millions and
millions of Xbox power cables, not since Sony
is officially doing the same. If you're the owner of a
PStwo (that'd be the slimmer PlayStation 2), check
your adapter; if it was manufactured between August and December 2004 and came with models SCPH70002, 70003 and 70004,
you could be one of the 3.2 or so million urged to send that sucker back. Looks like a few gamers may see some sunlight
before this summer's out after all.

So... Sony end up with a ton of customer data for the cost of a new adapter. Pretty handy with the marketing of the PSP and the soon to be PS3 ;)
(summer ended at labor day)
(im an ass)
microsoft just sent out a new one... but sony wants you to pay postage to send the old one back?
Chris and jason, check out the sony recall website (this is a couple of direct quotes from the FAQ):
Do I have to pay for it to be replaced?
-No, a replacement AC Adaptor will be sent to you free of charge. You will also receive a pre-paid envelope in which to return the old unit.
What should I do with the old AC Adaptor?
-Once you receive the new AC Adaptor, please open the packaging carefully and remove the postage paid label inside. Put the old unit in the packaging provided, affix the postage paid label and send it back to us for disposal. The postage for this has already been paid.
Do I also need to send in the cable with the plug attached?
-No, only the AC Adaptor needs to the returned. The plug and cable to the AC Adaptor does not need to be returned. This is a separate part which is not covered by the recall and will not be replaced.
What will you do with my contact details afterwards?
-Your details will only be used for this product recall and will not be used for any other purpose.
So, if you accidentally send in the plug and cable, do they send it back to you?
I guess they are trying to mitigate risk by having people send them in, but it seems like quite a hassle. I prefer Microsoft's approach of just sending you a new one and relying on the consumers intelligence to no longer use the old one with the risk being that they might burn their house down if they do. Seems like if you heed the recall (request a new part) and then purposefully disregard it (keep using the defective one), then the company couldn't be held liable for your stupidity.
Actually, I just applied for a new power adaptor for my brothers PSTwo. Sony send you a new one, and with that they'll send details of how to return the old one. Of course, you could just bin it.
Who forced you to send back the old one? You could just sell the defective one on eBay for $$$
ha.
I have a 70012. I assume that means I'm fine. I got mine I think last November or October.
