BlackBerry 8700 live shot
Well, at least we know it's for real now: someone over at HowardForums posted up a live pic of that new
BlackBerry 8700 we were blathering on about the other
day. They don't confirm (or deny) any specs, but last we heard the 8700 was supposedly going to have built-in GPS and
come in an EV-DO version for Verizon and Sprint and an EDGE version for Cingular. Not a huge step forward in terms of
design (the EV-DO's the big deal here), but it's definitely a smidge less clunky than your typical BlackBerry.

damnit...why did I have to buy my treo 650 in july...
Ugly,
Blackberry needs to have a meeting with Apple, they need than newage sleek design if they want to conquer another demographic other than wallstreet.
Peter, if they want something that's going to look like crap in 6 months time, and be compared continually with iPods and other plasto-white accessories, then sure - let them meet with crApple.
But it is damn ugly, I'll give you that!
( Sorry for double post, forgot to say earlier )
Why does this remind me of a calculator?
I rather like this...screw the 7290BB, this needs to come out soon. For really real. On Cingular...with EDGE speeds dowloading my JPG, PDF and DOC attachments and emails; CNN news alerts; using the RSS reader; and PocketDay...
ah yes. Perection - is upon us :)
The Caramel Sensation has spoken.
Dunno how accurate this picture is, I saw a RIM rep carrying one of these things when he visited my company. It looked way better than this picture.
The great thing is the EVDO on Verizon.
That high speed data network is the cream of the crop right now, and so the BB on EVDO will be a real winner.
I had my t-mobile salesman tell me they expect a new Blackberry before the "end of the year"
He didn't know the model number, but says his manager was at a managers meeting in Dallas and heard about it.
Could it be the 8700?
#2 - Do you know how big the corporate market is? (Clue: it's huge.) If BB started trying to be cool, they'd completely alienate their core buyers. Not a good idea.
For anyone that thinks this is ugly, I recommend that you design one. I am sure someone could come out with a sleeker design but would it be usable??? The Treo looks nice but if you have adult sized hands, the Treo is not very easy to use. The BB is not the prettiest but it is by far very easy to use and it performs excellent for what it does. I'd dump it and stick with my PDA if someone added a phone to my PDA. There is always a compromise. BB compromised looks for functionality, usability and performance. Not a bad decision. We'll see if the Moto Q can out perform the BB when it arrives. I'll drop Nextel for whoever carries the Moto Q if it comes close.
