The Clubscan ID scanner for nightclubs
A British company called idscan introduces Clubscan — an ID scanning solution for nightclubs and other entertainment venues. The system includes scanner, software, and USB encryption key required to run the software. At the door, would-be clubbers present their ID which is scanned and then validated against a database which recognizes passports, driving licenses, and national ID cards from "Europe, the US, Australia, the Middle East, and the Far East." It also allows club owners to collect information about male-to-female ratios, average age, geographic report by postal code, average time of arrival, etc. Oh, and it has this CD burning feature to help facilitate "police cooperation." Ok, we know venues are anxious to protect themselves from hefty fines related to underage drinkers, but here's a tip for ya — if you try scanning our IDs we're going to pivot-step-left all pronto-style dig, and take our kix elsewhere. Probably.
