Wine Expert kiosk dispenses buying advice
If the best advice the salesperson in your neighborhood bottle
shop can offer is "white with fish, red with meat," maybe it's time for the store to invest in a Wine Expert. The Wine
Expert is a point-of-sale kiosk that can dispense wine advice based on a range of criteria, including grape
variety, name, region, price or suitability with food types. It can also scan a bottle of wine and bring up notes about
it. If a customer isn't ready to buy, the info can be forwarded to an email address for at-home review. If only they'd
come up with a similar system to help us sort out the bewildering range of single malts, vatted malts, pure malts and
blends, we'd be set.

This is actually useful. I wonder why nobody thought of this before
actually, this store http://www.discoverywines.com/index.php in new york has a pretty similar thing that they've been using for at least a year now.
they have a great selection of very good wines for low prices, knowledgeable staff, etc.
i have no connection to them beyond being a happy customer...
I don't know if a standard flat-screen kiosk with a PC in it running some wine software counts as a *gadget*, per se...
I could put this software ( http://www.neohand.com/pocketpc/pocketvineyard/ ) into a PocketPC that I painted with special "Wine Selector" logos on it and sell it as a portable Wine Expert Kiosk. That would be a gadget, yeah?
Man, I guess I feel lucky that I have a nearby liquor store where the owner is a wine guy who is almost never wrong with suggestions.
You should get one of these for the Engadget Mansion. You could put it in the wine cellar and wow your guests with your expert knowledge.
The Engadget Mansion is real, right? I thought so.
Probably see these at a store like Gelson's or Beverages and More.
