DoCoMo's D880ss elderphone
We've been following the wireless industry's push into the seniors market for quite awhile now, and have just spotted a new big-buttoned, small-featured cellphone that will be joining the ranks of models from LG and Kyocera. Like these other elder-centric handsets, the NTT DoCoMo D880ss sports extra-large keys, a simplified display, and limited options, to make chatting as easy as possible. Instead of forcing the user to navigate through complex menus to dial a number, the D880ss features a slide-out tray with ten spaces for speed-dial entries to be penciled in. This model also includes software to enhance voice clarity, similar to another DoCoMo phone we recently saw that slows down the incoming audio. We say that this a step in the right direction: mobile phones for seniors that are not only simple to use, but that are actually, well, mobile.
