Verizon picks up Samsung SCH-A950
Remember the Samsung SCH-A950? Aw, sure you do, it's
that EV-DO phone from earlier this year, the one with the 1.3 megapixel camera, MicroSD slot, Bluetooth, and MP3
playback buttons. We know it can be a little hard to keep track of, but if you're looking at the lastet in the ever
expanding list of American 3G-enabled phones on Verizon; all yours to enjoy for $150 attached to a 2 year
contract.
[Thanks, Jakenanas]

An Mp3 player, Bluetooth, and a 1.3 megapixel camera for only $150 w/ contract?
Honestly this is an ugly phone in my opinion but those are the exact features I am going to be getting when I buy the I870 from Nextel later this month for $300+. I hate to admit it but this samsung is a really good deal. Too bad it lacks the Nextel Iden PTT feature.
Sprint will be carrying the same phone under the model number A920. Look for it to be in stores mid-November.
A direct link to the VZW homepage? Me thinks this post was paid for by VZW...
Dang, why can't T-Mobile release a phone with a half-decent camera.
Honestly, I think I'll buy anything they get with one better than VGA crap.
(Ok, they have a 1 Megapixel, but it's $500)
Wow, another ugly phone from Verizon... suprise suprise.
The A920 for Sprint is definitely related, but won't be the same. It won't have the spinning scroll wheel on the outside, for example.
And as always, expect a crippled bluetooth, right Verizon?
Can You Get It Now?
to echo persondude...
When they say Bluetooth do they mean - bluetooth that you can connect to a headset and maybe a car hands-free system with or bluetooth with full DUN and OBEX that I can sync to my computer, download and upload photos, connect to the internet through and all that other goodness. Maybe we need a couple of new terms rBluetooth for REAL Bluetooth that meets the whole specification and sBluetooth for SUCKY Bluetooth that Verizon got sued over.
I might check this one out. Im sick of my VX7000 for not having bluetooth and speakerphone. Went to the VZ site.. and its true.. $150 with two year contract.
Post #8... They do specify it.
"Connect with Bluetooth (using certain profiles)* "
*The a950 supports Bluetooth Profiles for wireless headsets, hands-free accessories. It does not support all object exchange (OBEX) profiles. Accessories sold separately. See Bluetooth for details.
This phone is totally hott! Internal antenna means less bulge in the jeans pocket and yet it comes feature packed in a small form. Plus its nice to see some color coming to phones other than blue and black.
Samsung phones always have the knack of looking quite good for about 15 minutes, then your realize they actually suck.
Verizon are still paranoid about allowing OBEX [sigh] - I've heard there are stacks of people with their phone's full up with photos they want to keep but are loathed to send to themselves so they can clear them out.
Just buy a Moto E815 or an LG VX8100, they both have the same specs, and you can hack the 8100 and use DUN on it. Its crippled out of the box, but you can bring it up to its full potential easily. Check out the forums on Phonescoop.com for more infor on the DUN hack.
the moterola e815 is hackable to allow obex

Am I buggin', or does Verizon's site actually say $250 w/ 2years, not in fact $150? Did they only offer it for a couple days? Booooo...
Its BACK!!! I just upgraded my old samsung and bought the new a950 for 249 and will get the $100 mail in rebate .. only $149!! I have been waiting for a good phone without the bulky external atena. About time they have a phone that has it all ... well .. almost. Too bad that Verizon doesn;t carry the new MOTO VX3 or I would have gotten that one. Oh well, there is always next years models. :)
How many songs can the phone hold? And what's the max it can hold?
to Reid Bode:
T-Mobile has the most state-of-the-art phones. At least two years ahead of Verizon. Look at Sony Ericsson k750. 2MP camera with autofocus, 262k color TFT display, up to 2GB MemoryCard, MP3 Player, RDS FM tuner, cute as hell at price under $129 in some stores with only one year T-Mobile contract starting from $39.99 a month. Do some research and don't buy it in T-mobile store.
this phone looks pretty sucky 2 me and i dont really "trust" the verizon network i prefer t-mobile. but hey we're all different..... i wanna get a sony ericsson w800i its is fuckin awesome! check it out and you'll agree. but it is way 2 expensive (around $500) so i wanna know if someone knows of a place where i can get it cheaper????
I just picked up this phone from Verizon two days ago. I've been a long time Cingular customer but got tired of their haphazard billing practices... anywho...
The phone is solid, range (for an internal antenna) is acceptable, internal and external displays are bright and easy to read. Finding a transflash card was a pain, Verizon reps dont know what they are and it took 2 trips to Best Buy to find one.
A tip about best buy: They keep the transflash in two places.. by the phones and by the regular flash memory.. check both places if bestbuy.com says the store has some in stock.
So far I like the sound that the MP3 player spits out.. it isnt an Ipod with custom head phones, but it aint bad.
My dad has service with verizon and I do to. I wanted to know if I can get my grandpa to just buy me the samsung sch a-950 because I already have a plan. I can just get the phone activated. Please let me know as soon as possible
I have had 2 Moto v710's in the last year, initially purchased for the OBEX feature that VZW promised, but alas, we now know. I am included in the class action suit as well, and look forward to a new replacement in January. This phone here has it all and at a lucrative price. As far as bluetooth syncing to save those favorite pics or get mp3's to enjoy, this phone like many others has the Transflash card. You can, save those precious memories, music and program uploads, and expand the memory capabilities. My only concern is that Samsung products have problems with cracking at the hinge.
Now available for 49.99 after a rebate.....not bad.
Verizon phones do seem to be lagging behind in looks and some features...but, as far as their service goes. I'm way happy with them....everyone I know who has Tmob and Sprint bitch about them all the time about how the service sucks, in the NYC area anyway.
I'll take an ugly lookin phone with good service over bad service with a 'hipper' looking phone anyday.
Ugly, No way this is a Bitchin looking phone.
You can fill up that little card with pictures and then carefully, very carefully take it out and move them to your computer. But I've got a digital camera for that. It's nice to have a built in camera though for sharing pictures with others.
My wife and I both got this phone (2) for $50 each. If you don't care about the bluetooth (they screwed it up) it's fine. Good camera quality but most important is we have reception at our home and Cingular sucked here.
I have been using the samsung a950 for two weeks now and it's kinda sorry. I don't know if it's the phone or the service, but I keep hearing statics. I am somewhat convinced that it's not the service since I've always had Verizon, and this didn't happen before. I don't know if I should take it back. I want to know if this happens to anyone else before I take it back.
If you're getting static on the phone, just make sure you're not putting your finger/hand over the internal antennae. It is kind of touchy if you do that...I have dropped a couple calls from doing just that.
The biggest problem I am having with this phone is the high-pitched noise in the background. It's extremely annoying! I have a replacement coming to me in the mail, so hopefully this was just phone-specific. I have heard a couple other people that have the same problem, so I'm not quite sure what the deal is with this thing?
