Samsung's 32-inch CFL-LCD
Most of the buzz over lower-power, lower-cost displays has been about OLEDs, but that doesn't mean there aren't alternatives, like color-filterless LCD (CFL-LCD) displays, which don't require the same type of backlight as a traditional LCD, and don't need filters to break up white light into the RGB spectrum. Samsung's 32-inch CFL-LCD works, according to the company, by using sequential processing, and runs on just 82 watts, a 40% power reduction over traditional LCDs. The company also says the display will offer a response time of 5ms or faster.
