Sanyo Epson develops high-gamut LCD for cellphones

If you think that image on your cellphone LCD doesn't look quite right, it may be because typical phone LCDs are only able to display about 50% of the NTSC color gamut. That may not be a big deal if you're just looking up phone numbers, but if you want to preview or display cameraphone images, Sanyo Epson would like you to take the NTSC gamut into account and use its new high-res LCDs, which the company says are capable of displaying 100% of the NTSC range. The new displays, which come in 2.2, 2.8, and 4.5 inches, add a cyan filter to the standard red, green and blue filters used in most LCDs, which Sanyo Epson says will result in truer colors, particularly in greens and blues. Chances are that at the smaller sizes, you may not really notice the difference (especially given the quality of the cameras in most cellphones), but as for the 4.5-incher, let's just say we really want to see the phone that has that display.
